35 years, amazing. One of my favorite films of all time. I was 5 years old when it was released so I watched it and fell in love with the film (and specifically Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber) MUCH later on VHS and DVD. I’d LOVE to see it exhibited in its 70mm form one day. Sad to see many of the theaters that originally showed it in 70mm are long gone. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing it in 35mm at Atlanta’s Plaza Theatre during the holidays. The print they showed was rough, battered and jumpy but somehow that made the experience all the more enjoyable. The sequels and imitators can’t touch this first one, in my opinion.

I grew up in nearby Putnam Valley in the 80s to mid-90s so I frequented the Westchester Mall (now the Cortlandt Town Center) on a weekly basis. I remember the theater was in a separate building from the rest of the mall, you’d have to walk or drive across the mall parking lot to get to either building. My father and I saw “Home Alone” here during Christmas of 1990, “Home Alone 2”, “Stuart Saves His Family”, “Vampire in Brooklyn” and the last movie I saw twice with each of my parents was “The Birdcage” in June of 1996 before we moved to Atlanta, GA. I’m sorry I didn’t see more movies at this theater because it was a comfy little place compared to all the multiplexes that have sprung up in the last 20 years. It was a General Cinema theater until the mid-90s when they switched ownership to United Artists.

I grew up in nearby Putnam Valley in the 80s to the mid-90s so my parents and I would come to the mall often. I remember seeing “Masters of the Universe”, “JFK” and “Sgt. Bilko” here before we moved to Atlanta, GA in the summer of 1996. I was sad to read that the mall theater I remember fondly is now gone since 2010.

Only came here once to watch “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” in 2014. A real shame it couldn’t survive the digital conversion. Seemed like a really nice “dollar” theater and I wish I had come here more often to watch 2nd run movies, the Venture Cinema is a worthy successor but too far out of my way.

I really miss the Movies 8. During my high school years (1996-2000) I saw SO many movies here at the best prices (around the $3.50 and $3.75 range) and kept most of my ticket stubs. It was a real sad day when this theater closed after the Mall of GA opened. Movie tickets are now more expensive and the movies themselves are worse.
