For many years this was my favorite theater outside of Manhattan. Saw so many of my favorites here: ‘The Great Escape’, ‘The Miracle Worker’, ‘Doctor Zhivago’, ‘West Side Story’…..too many to remember. The last films I remember seeing here prior to its being converted to a triplex were 70MM presentations of ‘Poltergeist’, ‘Gandhi’ and ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’.
I loved this theater. When “My Fair Lady” ended its run at the Criterion it moved to the Guild for several more months. It was the first film I saw there and I remember being impressed with the sound.
