We are working with the firm of Meyers Anderson Architects from Pocatello, ID who also were/are the architects for the Wilson Theatre in Rupert, ID, and the Strand Theater in Evanston, WY.
Yes, Mr. Clausen did design the historic Schubert Theatre aka Gooding Cinema in Gooding. There are 6 murals total in the auditorium 3 large canvases on the North wall and 3 canvases on the South wall. They can be seen on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SchubertTheatre/
Also we are blessed with having a hand painted backdrop of Shoshone Falls signed by Ernest Miller in 1920 that is stunning. It has water damage from the leaking roof but at some point we will also be restoring this historical canvas as well as two of the canvases by Hugo Clausen near the balcony that has been torn. The architects we are working with is the firm of Meyers Anderson Architects, Pocatello ID.
The Schubert Theatre in Gooding was built by Governor Frank R. Gooding as a wedding gift for his daughter Louise Gooding and Adam Schubert, his former Secretary, thus the Schubert name. It was designed by architect Hugo Clausen of Salt Lake City who also designed the Roxy Theater in Cambridge, ID and the Egyptian Theater in Boise, ID. There is also a backdrop that has been water damaged, hand painted and signed by Ernest Miller dated 1920 that will be restored at some point.
Correction: The plumbing will be a separate project, inquiries have been made as to cost to and what will be needed, but no plumbing replacement has been made. New drains for the 1st phase of the roof have been put in place at a cost of approximately $8350.
I might add that one of the reasons the cost of the replacement of the roof is so high is because it has 5 layers of material on it and damage has been done to the parapet walls.
It should be noted that the information on the closing date given by Contributor Ron Pierce is erroneous. Could be a typographical error. Lonnie and Charmy LeaVell purchased the theatre approximately 9 years ago from Micheal and Darcie Claire and it sat idle until they formed a 501 ©(3). It was designated by the IRS as a charitable nonprofit in 2014. They donated clear and free title to the nonprofit Gooding Restoration for Entertainment, Arts and Theater, Inc. aka GREAT, Inc. to restore the theatre and as such the nonprofit is the owner. As memory serves me, at the time of purchase, the Western States College was not running at the time of the purchase from the Claires in approximately 2008.
What an incredibly beautiful theatre!
