This is the place we would go when the Hollywood Drive-In in Averill Park was closed for the winter. The last thing I saw here was Disney’s Love Bug. My grandmother and I enjoyed the movie so much that we sat through the dreadful Gnomemobile just so we could watch Love Bug again. In the 1990s you could rent the marquee; I believe it may have been on a weekly basis.
The photos taken by William Gill (posted by Lost Memory) are amazing in that I didn’t think the theater would look as good as it does after sitting for 30 years. If there are any other pictures taken by Mr. Gill, by all means post a link to them!
I’d love to see it brought back to life as a first-run movie house, but think that maybe it would work better if the Proctor’s Schenectady plan was followed. It would be nice to see road shows of Broadway plays within 5 minutes of home.
Yes, it was quite musty-smelling in the end. The last thing I saw there was the South Park movie. By that time the theater had been reduced to a discount operation, as the tickets were only $3.
This is a fun place to go, and it hasn’t changed much since I practically grew up there in the 1960s. The screen is in great condition and the projection equipment is top-notch. The food is very good and reasonably priced (I even won a free popcorn!). The snack bar runs pretty efficiently, but get there early on a Friday or Saturday if you want to get something toeat before the movie as the line is LONG. I guess that’s a good thing as it will (hopefully) help Hollywood stay open for many more years. I do miss seeing the swings, jungle gym and carousel that we had so much fun playing on as children, but I understand that liability issues probably had everything to do with their removal.
Went there in 2006 for the Fantastic Four movie. This place is really showing its age. The screen panels are collapsing, particularly on the lower right corner. The mens room was one of the filthiest I’ve ever been in. I will not be returning.

I believe it’s an Indian restaurant nowadays. Funny, I lived 2 blocks from it for 20 years and never knew its past, only as the Arrow.
