One last comment that I forgot to mention above was that the Loews 16-screen Theatre is due to open in March 2006…I can hardly wait!! I am so sick of the Clearview Cinemas in Succasauna; it outta the way and the restrooms are disgusting!
Okay, here’s the latest intel on the NEW Rockaway Mall theatres. Obviously, no one has updated this in a while. Here is the excerpt from the Rockaway Township website where it speaks to the point:
August 26, 2004: The Rockaway Township Planning Board granted approval for the construction of a 16-screen movie theater at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall at their August 16, 2004 meeting.
Mayor Louis S. Sceusi and other municipal officials have been working with Simon Property Group to establish a movie theater complex as an integral component to the Rockaway Townsquare Mall complex. Loews Theaters will be constructing a 16-screen, 3200-seat movie theater with state-of-the-art amenities, including stadium seating, two party rooms and a wheelchair accessible mezzanine level as part of the project.
The proposed cinema center is the fulfillment of a year long commitment by Simon Property Group and the Mayor to once again provide movie theaters for the benefit of the Rockaway Township community after the previous theaters in the Mall unexpectedly failed to renew their lease with Simon over a year ago.
According to Kevin Sims, Vice President of Community Center Development at Simon Property Group, “Rockaway Townsquare has always been a focal point within Rockaway Township, but it has been the spirit of cooperation between Simon and Rockaway Township officials that has resulted in these successes that will contribute to an even greater degree to the quality of life for Township residents and further reinforce Rockaway Townsquares appeal as a shopping destination.â€
The Sparta Cinema needs a major overhaul…personnel included! I grew up in Sparta and moved my family back here in 2003. We haven’t gone to the theatre until a month ago. What a shock. When I asked the lady at the counter if I could pay with a credit card she looked at me like I had three heads and said very rudely that they only accept cash. I had to go to the bowling alley to go to the ATM…get with 21st century already! Next, I walked my family into the theatre to take our seats, what I saw was appauling. The theatre was damp, the seats were sticky and most were broken, the floor was dirty, the walls showed stains from where the roof was leaking, the aisle carpet was dingy, it smelled of mildew regardless of the popcorn aroma, even the recessed lighting was missing trim kits and the right bulbs. I wasn’t even going to attempt a trip to the restroom. Needless to say, we went because we had gift certificates for the kids and all we had to pay for was my wife and I. Sadly, we will never go back until they renovate and change hands. Unfortunately, I can see someone buying it and knocking it down.
