I have some adverts from 1923. It appears to have been a movie house along with vaudeville. I was doing my research starting in ‘23, so I’m not sure when it was opened. Also looks like a lot more vaudeville than movies.
I’ve seen this theater in connection with Dockstader. But then I also saw the Dockstader Theater as Dockstader’s Wonderland. Does this theater have any other names? Does anyone know any more connections with this theater and it’s vaudeville history?
Being a student at the university here, this theater, along with the Garby, are closed. Scrap Happy is still in the Orpheum location while I have no idea what is going on with the Garby. It may be for sale again.
This theater is now called the Apollo Theatre. It’s totally renovated from the previous photos. It has a lot of charm now. There is plenty of history there that is now on display. It used to be a grand theater that hosted films and vaudeville shows. Although now it is cut into two separate theaters, the stage and mezzanine still exist under the current architecture. The original box office is now on display and being used. Check the place out! http://www.apolloofstmarys.com/
