I remember going to this drive-in with my family though I have to admit I can not remember which films we saw.

I remember winning tickets for two to the then Odeon Theatre. I won them playing Rogers TV BINGO. The Rogers Cable 10 studios were next door to the cinema in those days. I suppose that’s how they got the tickets.

Alas, I could not utilize my hard won prize as all the movies showing at the time were R-rated. In particular I remember the horror movie ‘Frogs’ being really big. I felt ripped off.

I saw ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Late For Dinner’ at this cinema.

A remember my sister taking me to see Dumbo at ‘Shoppers’ Cinema' once upon a time. She and her friends would later go to see ‘The Legend of Boggy Creek’ – so popular it was “held over”.

A few years later my brother took me to see Star Wars there when I was 13.

In later years, I recall seeing Monty Python’s – The Meaning of Life, Blue Thunder and Creator. This period is noteworthy for me as I always bumped into an old high school friend there each time I went.

I was also a frequent customer of the Jumbo video store that eventually took the cinema’s place. If only for the free popcorn.

Wherever did you get these pictures?

This theatre was on Nelson St. in Downtown Brampton. It was closed down even when I was a kid, shopping with my parents at the neighbouring Loblaws. At that time it looked pretty beat up with all the old neon signage smashed and rusted. Some torn and faded posters could be spotted in the boarded up marquee.

There was always talk of revitalizing the place through the 70’s. Making it into a modern cinema. But nothing ever came of it.

It’s amazing to actually see it when it was brand new and (perhaps) the only dedicated movie theatre in town at the time.
