I agree, Edge1986. It’s a shame that the digital world we live in now, did not exist back then as there would be numerous pictures all over the internet of the places we used to visit when we were growing up. The only old school movie theater in the Houston area that is still open, is the $1 movie theater on 1960 and North Oaks. All of the others have closed and/or been torn down. It’s a shame.

Does anyone have any pictures of this theater, either from the outside entrance by the food court or inside the actual theater that they could post on here?

Does anyone have any pictures, inside or outside, of this theater prior to it being remodeled that they could post on here?

Does anyone have any pictures, inside or outside, of the old AMC Commerce Park 8 that they could post on here?

Jasonm74, I vaguely remember the shooting. I was still a kid at the time, but I remember that the area was already going downhill in terms of crime and after that shooting, we never visited that theater again. Oddly enough, I can not seem to find anything online about that shooting other than what you posted.

I remember seeing Free Willy, Home Alone 2 and The Santa Clause at this theater.

Hey Scott! Yes it was! I used to work in the area and Id pass by that theater every now and then. It would always bring back memories. I believe its some sort of church now.

I haven’t been to this theater since the mid 2000’s. I think the last movie I saw there was Constantine. I remember how it still had old school movie posters such as Gone with the Wing, Home Alone and E.T. I also remember all of the floor seating in those old movie chairs with no stadium seating at all. I have not been there since the renovation, but I hope the nostalgic relics that the theater had are still there.

I remember visiting this theater a few times when I was kids. I remember seeing movies such as Rookie of the Year and Ferngully here. I remember that there was a report that someone brought a snake and let it loose in the theater back in the early 90’s. That seems to stick out more than seeing movies there.

I used to go to this theater when I was a kid. My mom would take my sister and I quite often during the summer when this first became a $1 movie theater. I remember seeing movies such as Richie Rich, The Sandlot and The Mighty Ducks here. The area around it has gone downhill since then. I still live in the Houston area and pass this theater from time to time but I doubt I’d ever go back. I do think about going just for the nostalgia.

Does anyone remember the $1 movie that used to be in the Greenspoint area, on the opposite side of I45 as the mall?

Coryrr1, I completely agree with you. I remember going to this theater as well as the AMC 10 across the street and the AMC Commerce Park 8 numerous times back in the 90’s. Back before stadium seating was the norm, when we all had ground seating and the movies felt like “the movies”. I miss those theaters. If they still existed with the same type of ambiance as back then, I’d gladly go there over a newer one.

Does anyone remember which spot in the Willowbrook Commons is where the AMC 10 used to be? It has been so long that I can not remember where exactly it was in that shopping strip. there.
