UPDATE: The Crandell Theatre in Chatham, N.Y., has been closed since the fall of 2024 and is nearing the end of a complete renovation and restoration to its 1926 original look. We are on track to reopen in October 2025. The renovation includes comfy new seats, expanded and ADA-compliant restrooms, a new cafe serving wine and beer, and state-of-the-art projection, lighting and sound. The Crandell operates as a 501©(3), nonprofit community cinema in Chatham, NY. The theater is supported by ticket sales and earned revenue, the contributions of members and friends, and private and public grants, including the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Beginning in 2010, Crandell Theatre, Inc., raised more than $1 million to purchase the historic theater and make needed repairs. The current Crandell board is engaged in a $4 million dollar campaign to support the ongoing restoration and renovation of the theater and enhance the moviegoing experience for generations to come.
