mahermusic, the reason the Loews name was taken off of the marquee at the Kings was because right after Loews stopped showing movies there it was briefly ran for a year or two under different ownership as just The Kings

as long as I can remember this building was used as a thrift shop, first as a Goodwill in the 70’s and then a privately owned thrift store. I believe it is still vacant. I have vague recollections of walking down that staircase when I was 4 or 5; I think they had furniture down there. In later years the staircase was chained off.

I would assume Bwayniteowl’s source would be on the banner in Lost Memory’s recently posted picture of the Paradise…“domingo de milagros” translates to “Sunday of miracles” and the picture of the preacher and audience on the banner strongly points to that also

the old girl is looking kind of dreary these days…the “marquee” is now showing signs that parts were remade with wood and painted…the paint is heavily chipping away…the owners obviously don’t care about it anymore, it must have changed hands

Back in the 70’s when I was a small child me and my mom were downtown doing some shopping at Brandeis dept. store and I asked her if we could see a movie at the Omaha Theater, she said that there had been a shooting there and it wasn’t safe…I’m not sure if what she was telling me then was true or not

I believe it was painted black for a “Haunted Theater” thing they had there on halloween right before it was gutted by arson and then torn down

sorry, I was mistaken about the location. The theater burned down and is now a parking lot. Although a resturant on the same block has some pics of the theater hung on the wall.

Reading an old Time magazine article about the 1956 Democratic convention, I actually found out what happened to the seats from the Paradise Theater! It is towards the bottom of this page: View link

you are right Lost Memory, The Admiral was indeed on the northwest corner of So. 40th and Farnam. I used to see Rocky Horror there shortly before it closed.

If there are people that can’t escape the outside world long enough to watch and enjoy a movie, then must have serious problems.
