i have some good memorys coming to this theater . i remember going here in the mid 80s to see the Return of the Jedi with my sister and brother that had to have been like 1983 or 84 . the last time i seen a movie here was in 1998 it was a second rate showing of the Titanic movie i was on a date . i belive the theater closed not long after that now it’s a 24 hour fitness and millitary recruiting offices .
i used to live in Sacramento back in the mid 90s . i actually never been to this Theater but i remember seeing it all the time off the Freeway when ever i would go to Arden Mall . havn’t been to Sacramento in years i had forgotten about this theater and from what i see it’s torn down .
i lived in Sacramento for a breif time in the mid 90s and i remember going to rent movies right next door to were this Theater used to be at video studio 6 . i iremember looking at the building and wondering if there was a theater in this building . and i finally seen that it was . havn’t been to Sacramento in years just wondering if the video store is still there .
i remember going to this theater many times when i lived in South Sacramento . this was the only movie theater near my house . i seen a lot of mivies here the last movie i saw was daylight with Sylvester Stallon this was like in 1995 then i moved back to the Bay Area . i had no idea this movie was closed i was recently in Sacramento and i seen that it was c losed i belive it’s a church now . also i notice that the Florin mall is all gone man the area has changed .
the grand lake theater is trully a cinama treasure in oakland i’ve been coming here since i was about 10 years old . first time i came here was to see transformers the movie in a morning matinee i’ve seen so many movies here i lost count to many to name the last movie i seen here was in 2007 to see ironically the transfomers motin picture .. i like the 2 theaters that have balconys the main theater is also great with the wulitzer organist to entertain you .and the former main theater balcony turned theater up stairs is also hella cool i have so many memorys at the grand lake like any true oaklander should i hope this theater never fades away …..
ps the political messages on the marquee are kinda rediculous at times but kinda cool very unique btw i’m a democrat ….

belive it or not the entrence of this old theater now called the elmhurst pharmacy was where 2 oakland police officers where shot and killed on saturday 3/21/09 the 2 other officers where shot and killed and the suspect at an apartment down the street from here .preatty tragic event but the old eastmont theater was where the tragic events of that crazy day started ..

i remember going to the rockridge west many times i remember this theater being right across the street from oakland tech high school. there was also extra parking in a parking lot on broadway across the street from the high school there was a showcase sign years after it was closed down the sign is now gone the last movie i seen here was snow white with my little sister good old memorys ….

i remember going to see movies at this theater many times in the mid 1980s with my father i remember this theater being next to a payless drug store and also safway being in the same shopping center. one of the last movies i remember seeing here was masters of the universe that was about 1988 or 87 good old school memorys ……
i been to this theater twice to see 2 really good shows in late 2007 i seen a mexican folk band from richmond ca called Los Cenzontles and they rocked the house and in march of 2008 i seen another very good band from los angeles called mariachi divas they played to a sold out Audience and also rocked the crown i had such a good time .
but as a theater it has that classic charm i really enjoyed this place i’m glad this cinema gem was restored …..
i lived is saramento for about 4 years in the early 1990s and i remember coming to the 49er plenty of times me a my father used to always go to the small flea market they had on the weekends . i remember seeing a double feature here in 1992 it was american me and sleepwalkers the last time i saw a movie here was like in 1994 it was the last action hero sad to here this place is now closed because it was part of my early teen years …..
i remember coming here to this theater when it was Fruitvale Playhouse back in the mid 80s then in 1987 it was torn down and the Fruitvale Playhouse moved to a small building on farhnam st i remember seeing zoot suit boulevard nights and a few disney movies here man those where the good old days a lot of latino and asian kids would come to the Fruitvale Playhouse the owner was a older white guy i can,t remember his name he was a real nice guy ..
i grew up in the fruitvale district but Unfortunately this theater was torn down when i was only 2 years old my mom told me a little bit about this theater it sounds like it was a great treasure tobad i never got to know it . i know where it once stood on the corner of 37th ave and e14th st now internatonal blvd it,s a housing appartment for low income people and also a shell gas station ..
i remember going to see movies here all the time when i was a little kid i remember the last time i seen a movie here it was the karate kid 3 back in 1989 i also remember all the old movie posters in the lobby it,s a vacant lot now i missed this old spot.
