The Rogers Theater is owned by the Presque Isle District Library since 2016 and is currently in the process of restoration. The north wall of the theater will be completely restored in spring 2023. The theater’s marquee seeks restoration to its original functionality including operable chaser lights.
This multi year restoration project includes the interior and outer lobbies, concessions area, and main auditorium.
The theater opened its doors in 1937 and incurred a devastating fire in January 1948 destroying the main auditorium. It was rebuilt in July 1948. Many of the original appointments and decor dates to 1948.
In 2003, a performance stage was built to accommodate live theatrical productions inclusive of the single-screen films.
Part of the grant funding is to provide imaging of the theater’s interior pre-dating the addition of the performance stage in 2003. The library is seeking images at this time specifically of the Rogers interior prior to 2003.
