Intensity.
The cinema complex is designed to appeal primarily to children, teenagers and young adults. It has this fun fair annex with the usual machine games and a ‘candy’ bar with a popcorn machine. It is all very American in atmosphere. Australians have traditionally used the terms ‘refreshments’, ‘lolly’ or ‘sweets’ when referring to these important annexes of theatres. At least smoking is prohibited, as it has always been in cinemas in my lifetime, which spans back to the first year of sound movies.
