Linda Theater
This photo shows the Linda Theater sitting on the north side of the alley. The building was originally the first home to JC Penny in Abilene opening in 1917. The theater was originally known as the Bobby Walker – owned by Phil Isley of Dallas. At the end of WWII, Mr. Isley realized that with the closing of Camp Barkeley, most of business was leaving town. The theater was put up for sale and immediately the theater was purchased by a local theater owner – Tom Griffing who owned the Texas Theater a block away. The name was changed to the Linda Theater – named after his only niece. The theater was closed for a few days for redecoration and opened, showing double features until closing in 1958.
