This RPX® auditorium has lighted Klisph® stereo surround speakers. The Dolby Atmos® system is not quite set up and tuned yet. Dolby® tech people will be coming on Tues June 1 2021 to complete the set up we have been told. Turns out after my visit today the seats do not recline in this RPX® space. Too bad they did not put in the nice electric recliner seats like they have in other parts of this brand new cinema. The new Regal Orange type electric recliners take the space of 3 regular lean back seats so I guess they put in more seats in their largest theatre #12.
What I wonder will the movie be shown in 3D along with 4DX® effects. Hope for the extra price they do everything and not skimp and show It in regular 2D. I wonder if ‘A Quite Place Part #2’ was even shot in 3D? If a new film was shot in true 3D time to turn on everything at a 4DX® Cinema!
The ticket price here at the new Regal 12 Stonestown for 4DX® in Theatre #1 is at this time (May 28 2021) Adult Matinee $16, Eve $19 plus service fee If bought on line. Senior fee is a little less. 4DX® has been tested and is now open for business at the Regal 12 Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco CA. Come and enjoy San Francisco’s only Regal 4DX® Theatre!
Well the new 4DX® cinema at the brand new Regal 12 SF is now open in Theatre #1 May 28 2021. The first movie booked in that 4DX® auditorium will be ‘A Quite Place Part 11’.
The ScreenX® auditorium cinema is located in Theatre #9 and seats 204. They are not showing anything in the new ScreenX® system yet but are showing regular movies this week. Saw Mortal and just the front scope screen was used. Very confusing for new people that go into Theatre #9 and see all the signage for the new SX outside and the image is just like all the rest of the screens in the new Regal 12 front image only. Lets hope they can book a true ScreenX® movie soon and just keep this cinema space for the new process. At least they did not charge the extra fee for SX. We all wonder what that extra charge will be when all three screens are fired up? What’s bad about the Regal monthly pass fee It does not include 3D, 4DX®, ScreenX® or the Regal branded RPX® auditoriums they charge extra. Too bad they just don’t have a one price deluxe pass and not add all the extra money. We don’t see at this new Regal 12 in SF a special discount fee on Tuesdays or Wednesdays for seniors like many of the other cinemas in the SF Bay area have?
What is strange about the new Regal 12 in SF they have no chairs or seat/benches in the lobby or halls to sit if you come a little early or If the auditorium is still being cleaned. Maybe this is the new norm or maybe they have not arrived yet?
I will check this Saturday when I go for the first time to see Quite #2 in the large RPX® Theatre #12 auditorium. I think It was filmed in scope so the screen will have white at the top and bottom as no masking was put in. When that happens you see no curve at all in the middle of the screen. I was told by the manager that Dolby Atmos® was put in and I did see dark semi hidden speakers up in the ceiling. After all San Francisco is the home of Dolby®. He was very busy and who knows the manager is not a tech person. This RPX® space seats 296 people. It’s just too bad the screen is not as curved as the older AMC & Century XD theatres in SF. When I looked inside last month at this new Regal 12 the screen frames looked much more curved but when they put the screen fabric up the last week I think someone took some of the bend curve off the metal frames out?
Not all the new auditoriums at the new Regal 12 SF have electric true recliner seats. Some just tilt back a little when you lean back. The current seat count is listed in my report. The 4DX® screen auditorium Theatre #1 is still being tested and when they find a movie when ready It will open. Too bad It did not make this opening week but It is coming soon.
Does anyone know here on Cinema Treasures what is the best place to sit in a 4DX® auditorium? Front, back or in the middle? Do you get wet or is it just a fine mist? Hope the fog smoke does not smell bad. I guess each programed film has It’s own set of time when the effects come on. If It stays on all he time you may get a little dizzy with the tilting of the special seats.
This photo shot shows all the special equipment used for 4DX® Cinema in Theatre #9 at the just opened new Regal Stonestown 12 Galleria in San Francisco. It is in the lower load position for testing and fine tuning before a movie will be shown soon. I wonder what the increase in ticket price $ will be in SF? Someone has to pay extra for all these fun effects.
Hope they can get a live Regal salesperson to try to sell the monthly Regal Pass. I told the girl helping buy tickets to put some new flyers out that tells you about the monthly Regal pass. She found some and placed on the counter after we shot this photo. If you go to allot of movies It’s still a good deal. Check out the fine print and make a local Regal Cinema your second home.
This is the new Regal RPX® screen in Theatre #12. We liked the lighted surround speakers on the side walls. Has Dolby Atmos® Hope they play the demo trailer.
They look kind of terracotta rather then Orange to me in person. Still like them better then black or dark red like so many movie theatres use. Lets see how long they stay nice and clean in SF? Some people eating can be slobs in movie theatres that’s why most older cinemas keep the lights turned way down so you don’t see the filth on the seats.
This was one of the auditoriums #10 that the projector was not aligned correctly. The scope image was set too far to the left and the image went on the side outside the screen area. The right screen image was blank for about a foot and a half. We told the managers helper so If this was the only problem they did a good job with opening up 12 new screens. Also all the pre show 1.85 trailers just lit up flat in the middle part of the screen in a small hallo effect surrounded by white screen instead of using the full square 1.85 screen for a flat picture in most of the auditoriums. The scope wide image was ok except for this auditorium.
Today (May 26 2021) was the second day the new Regal Stonestown 12 Galleria in San Francisco was open. David the manger did a great job with all the tech things and the helpers. The big test will be this weekend for Memorial Day May 2021! Here is a list of the seating for all the auditoriums inside as of May 26 2021. Theatre #1 4DX® 140 seats, Theatre #2 96, Theatre #3 116, Theatre #4 130, Theatre #5 106, Theatre #6 129, Theatre #7 47, Theatre #8 47, Theatre #9 ScreenX® 204, Theatre #10 213, Theatre #11 214, and the best and largest screen in Theatre #12 RPX® 296 seats. Good luck to David and his Regal SF team for the brand new Regal Stonestown 12 Galleria Theatre on their big grand opening week. I live about 1 ½ miles away so will be going often. Will be so nice to get out and go to a true movie cinema after a year of watching home theatre streaming. Stop by and see a movie.
Here are some rare 35mm policy trailers from the Chabot Theatre in Castro Valley. The Jack Tillmany You Tube site has them up. The Chabot Theatre will soon re open after the C19 dark time. The children must have been rowdy in the 1950’s at the Chabot. Now those kids may have kids of their own.
Thanks M 1944 for this classic old photo. The neon marquee was working, fountains going and trees planted plus a canopy over the boxoffice. The Chinese Theatre is so dull now outside. Must have sounded great inside in 4 CH Mag stereo when they re run Disney’s Fantasia!
The new 4DX® screen in Theatre #1 is now open showing movies May 29 2021.

Thanks Kino you won’t find anything like this in the USA, like all the blue.

Wow very colorful thanks Kino for the photo! Maybe someone in the USA office of AMC or Regal Theatres will see this photo and wake up!
