It’s a shame that the owner of this building is so uncooperative or uninterested in the building’s history. It would be nice to see some interior views of what the theater looks like inside.
Thanks for linking that photo Warren. It looks just like I imgined from the nycsubway.org photo linked above on August 22, 2005.
Of course, no one could ever see it’s true beauty as shown in your sketched historic photo, as the Jamaica el always obliterated the view.
Thanks so much Warren for the update. When I was by there about two years ago, the Burger King was of course still there (I linked the photos above – See August 4, 2004 message above).
Anyway, the back part of the building was already vacant at that time. It appeared that the main auditorium was vacant even then already. The Burger King only occupied the lobby areas.
They are currently building a huge condominium/aprtment project right near where this theater was located. They have condemned an entire street nearby.
Muray, the closest I could find on the site is this one, which was on Canal: /theaters/10372/
Here’s an aerial view of the intersection of Hester and Bowery. ALl four of the old buildings are still there, but I don’t know which one the theater was in:
Thanks Lost for posting that. OF course, the renovation is now complete, and a success. I believe Gateway Playhouse of Bellport still does operate occasional shows at the Patchogue, especially when it’s a play that can’t fit into their smaller Gateway Playhouse in Bellport.
The photos linked above are no longer linked to the Shore Theater, and have been taken down. I guess they didn’t want them linked here for some reason.
Not too much going on at this site yet. There’s still sort a shanty town built at the area where the stage used to be, at the back end of the property.

National Amusements (or whoever bought the building) has just torn down the Island 16’s predecesor, the Brookhaven Multiplex Cinemas, over at Exit 64.
I didn’t realize they showed stuff like that at the Drake!
Anyone know of any photos of the interior of the rivoli, either current as the church, or from historical photos?
Did anyone ever find out what was being filmed at the Commodore?

Warren, your link doesn’t work.
Any word on an update of the Marboro site? I guess demolition is soon to begin unless things change?
Here’s the actual link, as the mainpage will change in a few weeks and the Floral Park as a “new” section will be buried within the site:

Does anyone know around when they stopped showing movies in this little theater?
Does anyone have any photos of the interior of the old Star Palace.
They have recently expanded/renovated the court building, but the former site of the Granada is still part of the court’s lawn area.
I hope they are able to save this little theater, as opposed to it being converted to retail space.
Tony, I think you are right, the fire dept site was my first guess too.

The theater is getting worse and worse, the fasace is now covered with graffiti.

Yes, I think it was 2 screens when it closed.
Well, I can understand that they don’t want photos taken during services, but I wouldn’t understand it if it was after services.
Does anyone have any current interior photos of the Gates, or know of any online?

There was also a Starr Theater on Knickerbocker near Starr.
