That is wonderful news on Easter Sunday! I recall when I first came to town and saw that corner in 2003..knowing that a great theatre building was there waiting to be restored. Thanks “ncmark” for your recent post and for keeping us all updated. I hope to see the Charlotte Ballet perform on the Carolina Theatre stage someday.
This theatre was patronized by Dean Martin who grew up in an Italian family in Steubenville. I learned this fact while reading a book about Dean Martin authored by his daughter, Deana.
So very sad that all theatres except the Florida Theatre still stands on Forsyth which was once “The Great White Way” with many theatres. And to learn that the theatre architect, Roy Benjamin’s home on Riverside was demolished is truly a crime. Benjamin built a theatre in Lake Worth FL which still stands today!
This Place Matters!
Bridgeport should still have the Warner!
Thanks for the reason, but to cover the original terrazzo floor is a crime, imo.
This sounds like a wonderful show! If I were closer, I would be there!
Norman: Thank you for your additional information. Much appreciated.
Have sent an email to the executive director of the Carlisle Theatre in Carlisle PA in hopes they can help the West Shore.
Sorry to be reminded that this cinema treasure was taken from us especially with such a rich history. It is truly a loss for St.Louis.
This theatre had an organ and I wondered if anyone knows where it may have gone?
This is more exciting news out of Mecklenburg County for 2016!
Great organ news!
Thanks for the ever important updates. At least the project is a go and the building will be saved!
New Bern resident and writer, Nicholas Sparks is holding a red carpet event at this theatre in the near future.
Will: Reopen it!
A nice original theatre in a quaint downtown area. Do plan to visit this summer and find the local Great Harvest Bread Company.
Still haven’t seen this Eberson though hope to after the renovations!
pnelson: amen
Nice to see the NRHP designation in 1993.
Nice renovated/re-opened story.

Such a shame to see photos of a once great movie theatre.

Two theatres for one parking garage is not a good trade off!
So nice to know this theatre has been preserved as it will always have a personal connection to Elvis.
Great to see a recent post on this theatre designed by Michael DeAngelis. What a pleasure it was to meet the grandson, Mark in 2014!
