Surprisingly, The Hunger Games won’t be shown in IMAX next weekend but they’ll have it in digital.

This theater will be one of several AMCs to show back-to-back Marvel movies featuring characters from the upcoming movie “The Avengers” in a marathon that ends with the midnight showing of the 3D version. Most of the marvel movies that are 3d were converted rather than shot. http://bit.ly/zbxvKG

Went to a 4:30 showing of the Lorax in Imax “Tree-D”, and enjoyed it a lot!!! It was the best Imax Digital 3D presentation I’ve seen and heard ever. Colors were bright and sharp and the surround sound was amazing. The 3-D was pretty awesome too. The trailers that played before the film were not in Imax 3D except for the amazing 3d trailer for To The Arctic which was shot in Imax 3D. It comes out on Earth Day, 2012.

according to fandango, The Artist returns following its Oscar win on sunday night, Hugo is showing for two times only in 3d, The lorax comes out in Real D 3D, 2D, and Liemax Tree-D, and Project X (not the 1987 movie) comes out.

I agree. There are a few theatres in NJ that still show 35mm film. The only 70mm film that I seen was Imax. The St. Helens movie I saw in a closed theater (the dome) was regular 70mm.

Last night, Hugo won a bunch of awards, mostly for its acclaimed technicality. If the AMC in Rockaway was nominated for an award, it would get a Razzie for high prices, blurry 2D projection on dim 3D lenses, and bad imax subwoofer bleeding into the theaters.

Late next year marks the 20th anniversary of this theater. The parking lot near it usually gets crowded not only because it’s near the theater but there’s restaurants and shops.

This year will mark 15+ years since the last time the theater’s exterior was renovated and new screens were added. Later this year the theater will turn 30, pretty impressive given that the Valleyview cinemas are no longer open. This theater and the Clearview cinemas are still thriving, especially Clearview because of their free movie tuesday program.

checking out the picture of the new interior, wow….it looks like home!!! Too bad you have to pay for the ticket and wait for your meal while watching previews and ads. Somehow movies and dinner don’t mix like coke and popcorn.

I think back in the old days, the Rockaway 12 theatres showed red and blue 3D movies in the 1980’s, when 3D came back with cheesy sci-fi and horror films like “Jaws 3-D”, “Friday the 13th Part 3-D”, and “Amityville 3D”, not to mention “Spacehunter 3D” as well as “Starchaser 3D”, an animated 3D movie that was the first 3D animated feature length film (hand drawn and computer animated) that bombed.

Here’s the link to what’s coming soon at this theater….http://bit.ly/wl8rFy One issue that I had while watching Star Wars Episode I 3D was the bleeding subwoofer issue from the next screen over and that the volume was much lower than a Dolby Digital presentation. The background images were blurry but some of the CGI looked sharp. The Ice Age short I’ve seen before in 2D but in 3D is amazing, not to mention the digital preshow starring The Lorax. The preshow didn’t end with the usual AMC Where movies live jingle, they interrupted one of those AMC fathom events ads to make the screen shorter. No AMC “Coming Soon” snipe and no AMC “Magic Coke” trailer.

Went to see star wars episode 1 in 3d….the 3d was ok, added a little depth and wow to the weakest of the star wars franchise. The trailers looked good. Spiderman in 3d looks iffy, and so is John Carter. The Lorax looks great in 3D.

Fandango is a better site. More colorful and appealing, plus the user’s ratings system is pretty neat. The mobile app is awesome. I saw Hugo in 3D, and didn’t see any cropping of the image to scope. Great 3D and sound mixing!!! It was in one of the smaller theaters, lucky #13. The 3D was a bit dark, though, with the glasses on. One thing that bothered me was that the preshow video was a bit jittery before the movie began, and there was no picture during the music that plays after and before the preshow. I also heard subwoofer noise coming from the imax, which needs to be toned down.

PeterApruzzuse, I plan on seeing Hugo this weekend at AMC in 3D. Hopefullly they don’t cut the screen to scope….If they don’t go, I’ll wait for the bluray, which is less than two weeks away.

Star Wars Episode I is back in Paramus, only this time in converted 3D. This is the second time that Star Wars Episode I has been shown digitally in Paramus, even though it was the last Star Wars film shot on 35mm film before Lucas became one of the first big directors to convert to digital 1080p cinematography.

Star Wars is back at clifton commons..episode 1 that is!!! In 3d!!! The first time The Phantom Menace came out, it used Moviefone as its ticket provider. Now it uses Fandango as its provider. I remember my dad seeing Episode 1 first with his wife (stepmom). I then saw it with my late nana in an auditorium where the projection was so-so and the surround sound mostly not digital and dolby stereo only. The DVD was better. The movie was a bit long on story but short on special effects. It wasn’t that crowded, given that the movie was out for a month (back when it was a General Cinema). Next year Attack of the Clones will return to AMC for a second time (the first Star Wars movie to play at the first summer it became an AMC), with the next four movies playing in 3d each year until 2017, when Star Wars turn 40.

I like film. I love the splices, the scratches, the sharpness. And the surround sound was pretty good too. Also they used film slides between shows and the film for preshows, which used surround sound unlike the digital preshow. I miss the digital surround sound trailer before the movie. AMC did it with SDDS and Dolby Digital. I saw the Dolby train trailer before “Exit Wounds”, which I’ve seen before in a computer game “Wing COmmander IV”.

Here’s a weird thing. When you click on a showtime to buy tickets on movietickets.com, it goes to a screen saying that they’re disabled at this time. directing consumers to nearby theaters that support the site. Any update on the situation between this movie ticketing giants please comment back. On a lighter side, the next time you see an IMAX movie in this theater, they will replace the Christie projectors with brighter Barco projectors, which clearview uses in some of its theaters. This will happen around the time Dark Knight Rises releases. According to the film’s wikipedia page, the director of the movie has talked to the people behind imax to show exhibitors the right way to project digital IMAX, which is what AMC needs to do.

Speaking of advanced tickets, if you plan on ordering this week, go to fandango.com, which I think is a better detailed site than movietickets.com. Weird that movietickets.com still has showtimes online for tickets lol, and that they filed a lawsuit against Comcast, the parent of fandango. I’m sure fandango will win because it’s makes it much easier to order tickets.

I heard in the news that Imax will team up with Barco to develop advance Laser projection technology that bankrupt Kodak is helping Imax with. Come 2013, no more film-based projection at Imax, which makes it easier for film delivery truck people to carry just a hard drive to the theater.

As of this week, most of AMC’s top theatres in the US and Canada, including this one, will use Fandango instead of Movietickets.com for online ticketing. As a result, Movietickets.com filed a lawsuit against NBCUniversal, the parent company of the site.

Way to go AMC, to boost sagging profits while driving customers away from the theater and watching movies on demand, redboxnetflix, whatever.
