The theatre doesn’t submit its own showtimes.
Last time I checked on movietickets.com, no showtimes for friday for amc in rockaway but there are showtimes for the new naria movie. The closest AMC theater has advanced showtimes for friday too. What’s up with the theater? I hope they publish them two days in advance!!!
just like when AMC had in the past back when stadium seating was a few years in its infancy…recently I was on the theater’s tickets site and found that advance ticketing is now on sale for the next Narnia movie. The first one I saw in one of the Succsunna’s newer theaters, theater #9, which will show the next film in DLP. Checking the rockaway showtimes, it’s not in DLP but in plain old 35mm. Pretty soon they’ll have sales for upcoming summer blockbusters, and hopefully the new Batman will be showing in that new IMAX screen!!! Not to mention Kung Fu Panda as well!!! FYI, the next indiana jones, which will return to rockaway after three movies at the old rockaway, will be presented in 35mm, not in DLP, since it’s the way the director wanted it to be. Last summer proved to be a busy one for Rockaway as it made more money than Parsippany due to its size and price. Parsippany, on the other hand, showed most of their summer hits in digital and sometimes showed an Indian film, which Rockaway rarely does since the last movie playing there to be in Indian was The Namesake, which bombed moreso at the Rockaway theater than any Clearview theater, some of which have still running the movie. Pretty soon the Newton theater will reopen, and that would take away some of the Rockaway moviegoers who drive down Route 15 to this big theater!!!
As per ADA, they would have to put wheelchair spaces somewhere or face some hefty fines.
That’s nice of them. They’re the biggest posters of movies I’ve seen in a Morris County theater. They put the posters on the front and sides of the theater, just not the back of it right by Route 80, where motorists would pay too much attention on the posters and less on the road. Inside the theater, there is a very big chandelier that looks like a shining star, and there are two floors…one for the public to enter and one for the employees to work the projection rooms. The elevator is only for employees and not costumers. One thing that would be missed if a theater was converted to IMAX would be the lack of seating for the disabled, but AMC might put some gaps for those wheelchairs near the front of the screen.
Actually Justin, they pay nothing. All those materials are provided to the theatres by the distributors. All the theatres have to do is request them.
i bet the theater pays lots of money for those big posters.
I checked http://maps.live.com and I can see the theater now. One cool thing about this theater is the giant movie posters on the outside. From the most recent Bird’s Eye satellite images, I can see the posters for The Simpsons Movie, Spider-man 3, and some other movies.

Hey Justin, I know the MPX system well. I ran it for a few months in 2004 at the City Center 15 Cinema DeLux in White plains N.Y. They converted a 455 seat house with stadium seating to a 325 seat house, took out all the front end seating, and moved the screen up 35 feet toward the booth. This new screen was huge, and all the extra speakers in both the rear of the auditorium and behind the new screen were killer.
when it opens, the imax will be projected using dlp technology. i checked google maps and the theater is visible, near its completion before its opening.
Maybe. That way or the other way you mentioned are two ways AMC can create an IMAX theater. I think the best way is to remove the lower seats, which are the worst seats to be in when watching a movie, and moving the screen upwards will make a big difference. Sure, the screen won’t be as large as a regular IMAX screen, but it will be digital and have the same uncompressed sound and 3-D that Imax fans have enjoyed in the past. This new system is called Imax MPX (multiplex) and was created in 2003 for use in multiplex theaters. Another theater that is not listed that has imax attached to it is the Regal 18 in New Roc City, not to mention the AMC Loews in Pittsburgh that will have one of its screens into an IMAX MPX theater.
Is AMC going to undertake costly measures to join two theaters together? I always assumed they’d modify ONE larger theater, removing the bottom rows and slanting the screen upwards. This is what National Amusements did when they converted a regular theater to IMAX at Showcase Buckland Hills in Manchester, CT.
How is work going on the installation of the Imax screen? If it opens, then the theater would be called AMC Rockaway 14 with IMAX. That would tie that theater with the one owned by Clearview in Mansfield for most screens in the northwest corner of the state. Clearview’s Mansfield theater, according to dcinematoday.com, has half of its screens equipped with digital projection by Technicolor, while the AMC in Rockaway will have one big digital screen that will mean more money and huge attendance numbers when Batman arrives!!!
I used my old Loews passes to see Juno with my cousin Aunt Pat to see Juno, and they work at this theater. My dad used the other two passes to see Juno as well. Speaking of Loews, when this theater was built, I saw the searchlights logo on parts of the exterior, not to mention the signs near the auditoriums that have the same font as the modern era loews brand, and the showtimes near the box office are taken straight from recent theaters under the loews name. And during my last two visits, one of the dryers in the men’s bathroom doesn’t work, the last one before you leave the restroom. Security at this theater is more stepped up than the AMC in East Hanover, where a brawl resulted in arrests by both Hanover towns.
Just went to see Juno with my aunt at one of the smaller screens that will be ready for an IMAX makeover come July of this year, and I enjoyed the movie. There were two things….the right channel was out while the other channels worked. Second, during one of the reel changeovers, the volume was lowered probably due to the print being used for a long time and that it reverted to Dolby SR rather than Dolby Digital 5.1. It seems when AMC built the theater, the acoustics are so-so and you could hear booms right across the next auditorium. On a brighter note, one of the upcoming movie posters showcase a new movie in 3D called Journey to the Center of the Earth. Will it play in 3D in Rockaway? Only time will tell, as the first IMAX digital movie to be shown there will be The Dark Knight. FYI, the new Indiana Jones will not be shown in digital, just plain old 35mm. I also saw a poster for the upcoming Met HD series, which hasn’t been playing in Rockaway at all…hopefully soon those NCM Fathom events will come to Rockaway. As for food, I tried some hot dogs with the soda, and the dogs were pretty well cooked and served fast as opposed to the popcorn, which sells better than the other snacks. And due to the recent snowstorm, the barriers between the parking lots are like mountains of ice, leaving people like me to walk carefully towards the theater entrance.
on a brighter note, the AMC in Rockaway is selling newer snacks other than popcorn, such as frooti tooties for the kiddies and Nestle Ice Cream, in order to make more profit. Remember, concession sales are number 1 at this theater in line with ticket sales. Maybe in the near future they will sell the pizza that older theaters have!!!
went to see “Spiderwick” in theater #11, very well behaved crowd. One issue that I should mention is that there are a bunch of imperfections on the projection screen, not the film. This makes watching bright scenes annoying, but darker scenes are ok. The sound system was pretty good. The only splice occured near the end of the film, but it didn’t distract the sound system. I sat one row above the front-row seating for a better view, and the film projection was very sharp and there was no masking issues. Too bad AMC won’t have IMAX just in time for Kung Fu Panda. BTW, how’s the installation going on the new IMAX digital? I can’t wait to see it!!!
Today was the first time an oscar movie marathon has played in an AMC in Rockaway. What was the experience like…I couldn’t come due to the bad weather, but was it crowded, and how was presentation and service? Let me know tomorrow.
How long is the lease at this theatre? The originals had like 20 year leases that were not extended. And I read a report that says AMC’s profit was down a bit in the 4Q from the 3rd quarter as ticket prices went up. This weekend’s box office looks a bit dissapointing. Good thing AMC still uses the A.M. Cinema program in Rockaway providing $6 showings rather than Parsippany, which charges the second highest matinee pricing in the area!

Can’t wait till July of 08 and see the new Batman there…very sad to see Heath Ledger’s last movie there. The last movie with Mr. Ledger that played in the old Rockaway was “A Knight’s Tale”.
As shocking as the Giants beating up of the Pats in the super bowl, the number one movie in America this past weekend is not playing at this theater. Why? Simple. 3D. “Hanna Montana & Miley Cirus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert” in Disney Digital 3D is playing at Clearview Parsippany, AMC’s current competition. The closest AMC theater playing it is in Clifton Commons. At least AMC will soon install Imax digital 3d just in time for summer. I’m sure a lot of teenyboppers in Rockaway are dissapointed but have to find a different theater to go to that has digital 3d but lacks stadium seating.

Last year, the AMC Oscar marathon didn’t play at here, but more than a year later, it’s finally here. Now I can finally see “There Will Be Blood” without having to drive all the way to parsippany.
All the theaters that are serving the new pizzas are former Loews, Magic Johnson, or General Cinema locations which still have the equipment leftover from when they used to serve pizzas years ago. None of the AMC built theaters have the capacity to bake pizzas.
The pizzas look great! I wish they would have that at a theater near me. I did see the same brand of pizza today at the supermarket in the deli section and they were not the frozen kind. They also had deep dish versions with tons of meat and cheese.
