went to see a 4:50 showing of “Iron Man”, the projection was a bit blurry but the surround sound was great and the crowd was filling the stadium seats but not the rocking seats near the large screen. The film started to being around 2 minutes late….and one of the toilets in the mens rooms was out of order as well as a running sink!!!! Any update on the IMAX rollout coming to Rockaway? So far, only DC and some other city will have the system up and running for the new system!!!
just checked out the theater’s website and they have advance showtimes for “Speed Racer”, which looks more like a videogame rather than a real car racing movie, and the new “Indiana Jones” movie. I read on Marvel’s website that inside the theater’s lobby there is a huge Hulk statue promoting his second big screen movie…hopefully it’ll be better than his last outing, which I saw at the Hadley in South Plainfeld and sucked!!!! Recently I read that Rockaway wasn’t included in the July opening of theaters equipped with IMAX…has it been delayed? Let me know…I can’t wait to see The Dark Knight in IMAX in Rockaway!!! And all the latest blockbusters that they’re showing is still pure 35mm film with the blurry projection and the loud surround sound!!!
Iron Man is now playing on four screens, and Maid of Honor is on 2….btw how did business do for this theater from a year ago? I know Spider-Man 3 did more money than what Iron Man did this year, given the fact that “GTA IV” was released at many video game stores at the mall to huge crowds, not to mention at Blockbuster. Next week should be good for families, with the box office bomb “Speed Racer” and the cult arthouse film “RedBelt”, not to mention another Ashton Kutcher comedy that will falter once Narnia hits Rockaway for the first time. I predict the new Indy movie will nearly occupy half of the theater when it opens on May 22. And in 2 months and 3 days…imax comes just in time for “The Dark Knight”. At least the Jokerized trailer is not playing in most theaters….
Just checked the advanced tickets for “Iron Man” on opening night, which is a Thursday….4 out of 6 showings have been sold out. This is good news…considering that the past few weekends have been kind of slow at this theater. As for “Narnia”, there’s still tickets available for the midnight showing. It’s good that AMC is still sticking to showing these movies in plain old 35mm with Dolby Digital surround sound!!!
The advance tickets for “Indy 4” goes on sale on May 8. There will be no advance tickets at all for “Speed Racer”
Advance tickets are now available for “Iron Man”, but not for “Speed Racer” or “Indy 4” yet. It won’t be long until the new Batman movie that AMC gets its first taste of digital projection, IMAX-style. I read on CanMag that when Iron Man opens at midnight on the 4th, the movie will play in the biggest auditoriums of a multiplex. In this case, 8 and 9 are likely candidates. I read good things about this movie, not to mention the new Indiana Jones and Speed Racer. That should bring people back to the movies not to mention shopping even though we might be in tough times with high gas prices that are not as high as those in California!!!
the interior of the AMC Rockaway (the lobby) doesn’t have that great mural that the Garden State 16 has. It’s very bland, except for the two HDTVs to the left and right of the AMC logo, as well as the chandelier. The automatic dryers in the bathrooms are really great.
This year will be the second for AMC’s Summer Movie Camp at this theater. I remember General Cinema used to promote this before AMC brought the idea to its theaters after acquiring the chain. Too bad I can’t go see those movies during the summer for $1 since I’m at work and that most of those movies are already out on DVD, HD-DVD, and Bluray!!! While that is going on, the one thing I’m looking forward to at this theater will be the arrival of the new IMAX system at one of the smaller screens. Any word on which screen it is? If I’m correct, the first movie to be shown with the new system will be the Batman Begins sequel. And I’m excited to see Indiana Jones on the big screen for the first time, as well as other summer movies and this coming weekend, Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
One other thing that I noticed during last night’s showing of the movie…the first few seconds of the movie came before being interrupted by the “Silence is Golden” trailer and the “Feature Presentation” snipe, then goes back to the opening Dreamworks logo. Must’ve been the lab splicer, since there were a couple of lab splices in the print that I saw, which had some minor scratches but no masking issues. Back when the old rockaway opened, they used to show surround sound trailers before the movie, as the Rockaway Outer 6 showed a Dolby digital trailer with the train in it. This theater doesn’t, and the AMC crying baby trailer is a good surround sound trailer.
Last night i went to see The Ruins, a decent horror movie, in theater number 10. Place was not busy at all. Presentation was good and popcorn was not as salty as that of paramus. In the lobby, besides the kung fu panda statue, there is a promo stand for prom night that, when opened, a screaming sound plays.
Any word on when advance ticketing and showtimes are available for Iron Man and Indy 4? Only Narnia 2 has showtimes, so I guess I’ll have to check AMC’s website each week for upcoming times. Checked out what’s playing this coming weekend at the theater, and some interesting films….Leatherheads, set in the early years of pro football, The Ruins, based on a scary book, and Shine a Light, a Rolling Stones concert film that is sadly not showing in DLP and IMAX, just plain old 35mm.
just checked out movietickets.com and tickets aren’t available for drillbit taylor. all other movies have online ticketing. did the auditorium get evacuated or were they doing some imax work on it? also, seating should be 3300, not 3500.
Here’s what I got in my email from AMC…
“Dear Justin,
Thank you for contacting AMC Theatres. Generally, we try to complete
our show schedules on Wednesday evening of each week for the following 7
days. However, many factors can lead to this process being delayed.
The theatre will complete the schedule as soon as possible and post all
their showtimes to www.movietickets.com We apologize for any
inconvenience.
AMC Guest Services"
and now checking the site…voila…showtimes!!!
no showtimes for tomorrow…what is going on at rockaway?
That practice has been used for a long time, even though the technology has changed. If a theater’s showtimes is not listed on opening day, then an advisory for the reader to call the theater or look up on the web for showtimes is printed next to the theater, especially if there’s a lot of popular movies!!!
In the case of AMC (as with most large chains), the district office or national booking office submits showtimes to the various services that then syndicate them to Moviefone, movietickets.com, Fandango, the newspapers, etc.
still no showtimes again….maybe i’ll try tomorrow…
Here’s what they had to say…

Just emailed AMC about the showtimes issue for the weekend. They’ll respond whenever they can. I used the contact us link.
Nope. I don’t have a credit card, but not that desperate. Just curious.
Are you really that desperate to buy your advanced tickets for 21? You should address these things with the theater management or with AMC Corporate in Kansas City instead of hijacking this site with pointless ramblings.
Still no showtimes yet. This is getting worse and worse…
Here’s what they had to say…
“Generally, a theater’s release schedule for a movie runs from Friday to
Thursday. Showtimes for this theater generally appear on Wednesday.
However, for a blockbuster release that is in high demand, tickets and
showtimes may be available up to a month in advance. Schedules are set
by each individual theater, not by MovieTickets.com, so please check
back frequently if the movie you are looking for is not yet for sale in
your area.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the theater
directly at 973 328 4255 for further assistance"
If anyone calls them to see what the fuss is about, then reply to my comment.
I emailed movietickets.com, and hopefully get a comment from them. On moviefone, the showtimes for rockaway are twice what they are on movietickets, causing some to think that a movie is playing on more screens.
Then who does? Still no new showtimes for friday.
