This is NOT what a 10 year old boy should see on his birthday because his first choice(“The Muppet Movie”)was sold out.

But,that exactly what happened on that fateful September day in 1979 when on this at the Parkway triplex in Las Vegas,NV.

Not sure if it was 70mm but i think it was since it was in the main auditorium.

According to the history of Loma Linda:http://tinyurl.com/pqeknn
it wasn’t until 1970 that this largely Seventh Day Adventist community became an incorparated city.

I drove by there yesterday on the way back to Calimesa. Absolutely nothing remains of the drive-in. I can recall a lot of exploitation movies played here in the 1970s-80s.

It occured to me that someone here mentioned Kerasoltes as a possible owner/operator. Didn’t they take over a Chinese Theatre complex in Colorado that was opened by Mann in the ‘70s?

That’d be quite a coup,i think.

Disney owns all things ABC. Somehow,i don’t see Pacific picking this one up since they’d probably use it as a moveover theatre for whatever’s playing at the Dome/Archlight or vice versa.

Century,Cinemark,Carmike(which would enter the SoCal market with this one and the Westwood screens)even the dreaded monoliths AMC & Regal would have a better chance. Or it could go indie like the Majestic Crest did.

Exactly! Close and remodel completely or close and build somewhere else in B.H.

I read it on Cinematour in the thread about the closing of the Bruin and Vlllage theatres after Mann cancels thier leases next year. I think Chris Utley posted it.

Regency Theatres has picked up this theatre. Supposedly, they do a pretty good job on keeping up theatres abandoned by thier former owners.

Cult classics, perhaps. But,no,not B-movies. Impressive score getting “Abby” i thought that couldn’t be shown in theatres? If this is even going to be in a theatre.

ETA:Which is kind of appropriate since “Lovers and Other Strangers” produced by ABC Pictures.

So,obviously, this was part of the ABC theatre chain that gave us the Century Plaza in Century City. Question:when were theatres 2&3 added? because i can’t imagine why they’d carve up that big, beautiful main screen they had.

“The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea”,with Kris Kristofferson, played here exclusively in 1976 when this theatre was run by Loews.

Wasn’t there a single screen UA in Westwood? Because i remember ads for “Rocky Horror” saying that it was “moving”(complete with legs from the poster to make the point, lol)over to the Cinema Center 4 has RHPS was being replaced by the comedy “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother”,which opened on Christmas Day 1975.

When was the screen on the left side of the original building twinned?

richjr37
richjr37 commented about Montclair Savings Cinema on Jun 23, 2009 at 9:25 pm

Actually,Zubi, the SRO Montclair 3(later Pacific Montclair 3,they expanded it to a 5-plex shortly after the acquisition)was located on Holt Blvd.

The Indian Hill was near the Pomona/Montclair border on Indian Hill Blvd.

Re:Ken mc’s post-I wonder how long “The Stunt Man” played at the Gordon. When i saw it while on vacation from Vegas in Spring ‘81,it was there with the Jack Nicholson/Jessica Lange remake of “The Postman Always Rings Twice”.

I saw the Ali McGraw stinker “Players” here in 1979 with my mom while my dad and my sisters saw the equally awful “Prophecy” on the other screen.
