I have many fond memories of the Wonderland 4 when i was a child because my parents always took us to a movie here after going to dutch Wonderland. Saw all the cool 80’s flicks here like “Gremlins” and “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.” I attended the Eden once- it was o.k., the staff was friendly. When did the Wonderland 4 and Eden actually close? I rode by once in August of 1994 and took pictures-The Wonderland had “The Mask”, “Natural Born Killers”, “Clear And Present Danger” and “Trial By Jury.” I take my family to Dutch Wonderland now and it’s just not the same not seeing the marquee out there on 30 anymore, or being able to take my kids. It’s so built up now-I remember a time when it was Dutch Wonderland, Howard Johnson’s and Denny’s out there- the few hotels 0n 30 would fill up and my Dad would drive up to denver looking for a room, in our beat up matador!
longislandmovies-the Senator had a successful four week run of “300”,from March 9 to April 5, then moved it to it’s sister theatre-the Rotunda Cinematheque, for two more weeks. This is an awesome theatre, and the last of it’s kind for our area here in Baltimore- a city that only possesses two other movie theaters in it’s central limits- the above mentioned Rotunda and the Charles.
The Hanover theater sits abandoned and neglected. It’s beautiful marquee falling apart. I heard it’s all gutted out inside and was once an antique shop and or used for antiques storage. It’s got an awesome box office out front. Don’t know when it closed-maybe around ‘81/82. Such a shame-the town is really booming.
James, I rode through Dallastown this past weekend. It’s great to see the theater open again and it looks great. I want to come up some night and check out a movie. With all the theaters closing, this is a nice change of pace. Best Wishes,
This theater stayed a Jerry Lewis Twin until 1973-then became Monteco Twin Cinema, named after it’s location within the Monticello East Plaza. It was unique because Twin One always had some big movie straight out of L.A. and N.Y.C. like “The Sting”, before any other theaters in New York State. They also showed Foreign Films and classics. Twin Two showed porn, but the better stuff. The theater was last called Apollo Mall Twin when the shopping center became Apollo Mall Oulets. It closed in the summer of 1986, a shame because it was one of the better theaters in Sullivan County.
The Windsor theater opened around 1964. Located in a small shopping center. It was twined in 1977 and closed in 1987 when a multiplex opened in nearby Newburgh. It was also known as an ABC theater and under Cate Enterprises. They played alot of blockbuster Hollywood Films here.
The Squire Cinema was located in a small shopping center in New Windsor-just outside of Newburgh. It had a great marque out front and a very large auditorium. It opened in 1965 and twined in 1979, closed in 1986 when a multiplex opened in Newburgh near the mall on Union Avenue.
This theater opened around 1968/1969 as a single screen theater. General Cinema took it over and twined it in November of 1972 with “Dumbo” / “You’ll Like My Mother”. It was cut up into four screens in 1988, and later when the shopping center was remodled, a new front was added and it was connected onto the shopping center, on rt.42 The better looking and nicer theater in Monticello was the Jerry Lewis Twin, later called the Monteco Mall Twin, this was off of Rt. 17 Twin one showed mainstream and foreign films in the 70’s and twin 2 showed porn-some of the better stuff-Gerrard Damiano and hits straight out of N.Y.C. It closed in 1986.

What a dam shame-I hope it’s saved. I attended this theater and took photos back in 2002. It was beautiful inside and that marque is awesome.

Does anyone have any photos of this theater when it was Cinema 1 and 2-in the 70’s. Would like to see some.
Where was this theater and when did it close? Don’t remember it. I lived in California from 1995-2001.
Nice little theater- lived near it once. Have photos of it-it’s still standing untouched from when it showed movies.
