“Star Trek”: The best current movie I’ve seen at the Ziegfeld since “Chicago”, and that was back in 2002.

What a mess! Went to the Ziegfeld yesteday! Half the seats rock or are loose from the floor, the cushions are flat, and the screen is very dirty and dusty! It needs some serious tender lovin care! Whenever there was a scene in the film when it was a light color at the top all you saw was dust on the screen . Will not go there again! lol there were only 11 people seeing the show.

Yes, but if its at the AMC’s IMAX, its really supersized DP, or what I’d like to call IMAX-lite. In the true IMAX auditoriums its letterboxed because of the aspect ratio of the movie so, again, its not TRUE IMAX. Our market isn’t getting it in DP so its either IMAX or regular film.

Isn’t “Star Trek” being shown in Imax as well.

Oops. I meant to say the Star Trek in DP at the Ziegfeld! They have an excellent system and best presentation of Revenge of the Sith, including 35mm film, anywhere. Its just that there hasn’t been an equal since. I’m hoping Trek will be as at least as satisfying presentation wise if nothing else.

The last DP movie I saw at a Clearview (the one in Hackettstown) was Tropic Thunder and the sound levels were good, but not bombastic like the AMC in Rockaway. Projection was good but not up to par like the Blu-Ray version.

So I’m reading on the Clearview website that Star Trek will have an exclusive two-week digital projection run. Fascinating. May be worth charting a course to the Manhattan venue opening weekend. When I last saw a DP movie here (Will Smith’s “I Am Legend”) it was rather disappointing as there were no curtain action and the sound levels were suprisingly low.

I saw the Jolson Story at the Ziegfeld and the picture looked pretty good. Do not think anything was cut off the top or bottom of the screen. Since I had seen the film many times before on TV I know I would have noticed if there was a problem with the film.

I saw GWTW in 70mm and agree but I think they could print it 70mm and leave it in the academy ratio and you would have a very sharp square picture but the whole idea was to simulate widescreen.

I forgot to mention, beautiful ad. Thanks for the post, RobertR.

You can’t really make a decent “widescreen” presentation out of something filmed in “academy standard.” You lose the top and bottom of the original image, and it’s blown up so much it looks fuzzy and grainy, even probably in 70mm. When they did it to Gone With the Wind once, it was a disaster. I wonder if Jolie fared any better.

How do I find out ahead of time about premieres? I’d love to be there.

I have been kicking myself because I missed Back To The Future last year and now it looks like there won’t be any classics this year!

Just stopping by to say hi so that I can get back on the notification list. Sheesh!

I was wondering about that, too, John S. Other than booking the Monsters vs. Alien movie in Digital 3D, the movieticket website doesn’t reveal any new shows through May. This is strange given the fact that there are several BIG EVENT movies opening every weekend in May starting with the Wolverine prequel, the Demons and Angel movie, Star Trek and a few others. I’d love to see the new Star Trek in DP here if they book it.

Will there be a classic film series this spring at the Ziegfeld? Anyone hear anything?

Agreed, The Ziegfeld has closed fairly often for weeks at a time over te years, but it’s still around. I’m not worried.

Not so amusing Giles.

A week from tomorrow, Aliens vs. Monsters 3 D arrives at the Ziegfeld, which appears to be 3rd 3 D movie in a row, since I think Jonas Bros and Coraline were both showcased here.

It’s also cheaper to close those extra days than paying for staff and electric and 5-10 people a show. It happens a few times a year.

it went up and closed like the Senator …

kidding.

Second week now with no screenings. Can appreciate 1-2 days closure for a premiere screening, but 2 weeks…? What’s going on here?
