Maybe in time for the fourth Final Destination movie…which looks allright.
yeah.. i think the digital theatre wont be ready for G-Force.
according to movietickets, the midnight showing of G-Force is 2D, and the 3D version could come out on Friday. Nearly all of the midnight showings of the second-to-last Harry Potter movie are sold out, which is a good thing.
but remember Texas Instruments has 4K in the cards as well, so I’d assume theatres that have TI systems can and will be able to upgrade when 4K projectors/processors come out at the end of the year.
This is great news and could provide better picture quality than that at the Clearviews, which will slowly change their digital projectors at all their theaters to 4k.
Sony and RealD to Provide Complete 3D Digital Cinema System for Exhibitors
“Solution Uses Single Sony 4K Projector and RealD Technology”
Sony Electronics and RealD are working together to provide exhibitors with 3D digital cinema systems that combine a single Sony 4K projector and its new 3D dual lens adapter with RealD technology, including a specially designed optical filter tuned for the projector, resulting in the ability to deliver crisp 3D images to screens up to 55 feet in width.
Sony and RealD have also entered into a separate agreement that gives RealD the exclusive right to purchase and distribute Sony’s 3D lens technology for use with polarized filter systems in Sony digital cinema projection system 3D deployments in the United States, Canada and Europe. In addition to the Sony 3D adapter, RealD will provide hardware and software, including its Cinema System and 3D EQ “Ghostbuster†technology, for 3D playback on Sony 4K digital cinema systems worldwide.
“The relationship between Sony and RealD will make it easy to install a 2D Sony projection system that then can be easily upgraded to 3D, with RealD’s award-winning technology,†said Gary Johns, vice president of Sony Electronics’ Digital Cinema Systems Division. “By working with RealD, we’ll be able to provide both a practical and an elegant 3D solution.â€
“Combining Sony’s phenomenal 4K projector with RealD’s market-leading 3D technology simply made sense,†said Joe Peixoto, president of worldwide cinema at RealD. “With RealD having the world’s largest 3D cinema network, and more and more 3D content hitting theaters, we’re excited to be working with Sony to help exhibitors implement this high-quality 3D experience in an easy and cost-effective way.â€
The Sony 3D lens adapter maximizes the exclusive technology of the 4K SXRD® imaging device, which displays four times as many pixels as conventional 2K projectors for digital cinema. This allows full 2K resolution for the left and right eye simultaneously, resulting in a high-luminance, full-resolution stereoscopic cinema presentation and is designed to enable more faithful reproduction of motion in 3D.
The 3D capability is provided through hardware on a lens mount that attaches onto the projector and is compatible with all current Sony 4K digital cinema projectors. Installation is seamless and can be done within minutes. It is designed to meet DCI specifications for 3D digital projection.
RealD’s 3D EQ technology enhances the separation of the left and right eye images. In the past, this process was incorporated into the master by the studios; RealD’s new approach incorporates the technology into the digital cinema server and therefore simplifies the distribution process without sacrificing the optimal 3D visual experience.
The Sony and RealD solution, which includes the Sony 3D dual lens adapter, will be competitively priced in the marketplace and is expected to be available in March.
~~~~~
read the last paragraph, it’s been implemented since March of this year.
that’s not true SlimShady – 3D add ons, for 4K Sony systems ARE available currently. That’s why Regal jumped on the Sony 4K bandwagon and begun installing systems more quickly than AMC, Regal has 3D Sony DP’s at Ballson (Virginia), and the Majestic (Silver Spring Maryland) theatres. Sony advertises this very distinctly in Box Office magazine.
on second thought justin, it could be Sony 4k system because recently all Amc digital theatres on the westcoast were upgraded to LMT 200 media block which supports 3D. So Lets wait and see
slimshady, the three theaters will be monmouth mall, mountainside, and new brunswick, all former loews/sony theaters.
maybe on tuesday of next week just in time for the midnight showing of g force on friday.
it takes abut 2 days to complete the entire installation but it depends when it begans. I dont know when are they going to began
…AND, How long will it take to get auditorium 7 ready?
momouth***
mouthmall, mountainside and new brunswick around this area
what other theatres will have the projection?
How long will it take to get auditorium 7 ready?
As of right now 3D only works with 2K. Sony 4K are only for digital presentation and not for 3D yet. The parts to enable 3D on Sony 4ks are still being manufactured. It’s not out yet. So all RealD 3D presentations operate on Christie’s CP2000
Will it be the Sony 4k projectors or the 2k ones?
yep he’s right. Rollout for 3D Cinema is beginning next week. This theatre will be getting in auditorium 7. There are other few theatres as well.
On the Google reviews for this theater, a recent moviegoer complained about the theater since she was carded when she went to see Bruno, an R-rated film. Now whenever I go see an R-rated film, I usually go with my dad or someone older than me, and this is no problem. Next time I go see an R-rated movie on my own, I’ll show my ID card much the same way I pay for an M-Rated game.
Was at the 11:10 showing of “Public Enemies” and enjoyed the movie a lot. The only complaint I had was that the movie was shot on HD video, making some action a bit jittery. This is similiar to what they did with Cloverfield, although that was a different kind of movie. The soundtrack was good, and there was a decent crowd. Paul, the guy in the wheelchair taking tickets, was nice to me and my aunt. Near the cash registers, AMC once again put up a notice about a 3D movie shown only in 2D, with Ice Age. Hopefully they get the digital 3D just in time for G-Force, which I’m not going to see.
thanks.
The drop down window I think you’re referring to (Choose Your Movie, Opening This Week, Coming Soon, Now Playing) is a movietickets.com feature that can be accessed from any theater listed under movietickets.com. It doesn’t necessarily mean those movies will play at the theater whose page you happen to be on. If you’re referring to something else specific to Rockaway 16, let us know.
it was under the heading coming soon, with both the 2d and 3d versions listed.
Can you provide a little more detail for those who don’t subscribe to the Moviewatcher Newsletter? What did it say? When I was at the theater last weekend and inquired about digital 3D, I was told by a worker that the manager was “working on it now”.
