Let’s see if they’ll get it done in less than two months. I wonder if they also intend on changing the screen with a new one. That screen is freaking huge. It would take a lot of men to do it.
How big is the screen at Dolby Cinema AMC Prime? Is it a standard size screen or is it as big as a LieMAX screen?
I don’t think I have been to the Loews auditorium at Lincoln Square yet, but I keep hearing about it. It supposedly has the biggest screen at that theatre besides the IMAX one.
ACS12: wow, that’s a great news to hear! I can’t wait to see laser IMAX! If the renovation start on February, im 100% sure it will be done before bvs.
I would recommend to watch deadpool at dobly cinema of AMC prime. It was great when I watched the revenant there. the design of that theatre is very different, but the movie watching experience is very close to IMAX.
Now I’m trying to figure out which other IMAX theatre is the best option to watch Deadpool at. I was holding out for Lincoln Square thinking that they were going to add it on Fandango. Some guy who works for AMC Guest Services, pretty much confirmed it on Twitter that they’re not going to show Deadpool in IMAX at LS due to renovations. The question now is, will they get done before BvS comes out…
armandCF44: yeah, no IMAX presale for Deadpool at LS13 so far. It may be a sign for renovation! we can only wait and hope.
Deadpool showtimes just went online for presale, no listings in IMAX. Empire has it in IMAX though. This could mean they’re skipping it to do the Laser renovations!

ridethectrain, why would you want fake 3D at Dolby Cinema AMC Prime? It’s fine the way it is. 2D is better.
AMC PRIME is the same thing as REGAL RPX. Just another reason for them to charge the public more money.

since a fellow poster mentioned it I have to ask what is an AMC Prime Theater?
waterguy56: I was under the impression that IMAX creates two different DCP’s – one for it’s 4:3 screens (IMAX-laser) and 1.78 for it’s IMAX-Digital screens.
@ACS12 And they are going to show the finest hour on the 29th right after sw7, then the deadpool, God of Egypt, divergent, bvs, jungle book……..Laser is not happening! It’s never going to happen, so saddddd.
I have a confusion. Why didn’t they start installing the laser projector last year ?What are they waiting for? Is it because the movie tickets sold well at that time so no need to change? Or is it because the laser equipments are so expensive, and they cannot afford it + they think it’s not worth to change? Or is it just because of that ******* permission from the city?Maybe they are never going to do it.
They are even showing The Force Awakens at Lincoln Square all the way to the 27th of this month. There’s no way they’ll install the laser projector in time for Deadpool. Great, crappy IMAX digital again.

Do you work for a movie theater or something? Even if the cameras don’t catch you, with reserved seating becoming more popular now, it’s impossible for people to sneak to other movies because those seats have already been taken by people online. You would just make yourself look like a fool by sneaking into other auditoriums in this day and age.

@xbs2034, aren’t those IMAX scenes pointless on the digital projection screen since the images are not 1.44:1???
I don’t think they can skip Batman v Superman in March to do renovations as it is a huge release shot with IMAX cameras, and they already gave tickets for a week in advance early screening to the people who attended the IMAX preview event last year. Maybe they could do it in-between BvS and the summer movie season start with Captain America: Civil War, but if not could well be a long time before they finally do this.
The IMAX theater will not be closed for renovation before March. They are still trying to get permission from the city; The earliest time they can get it is March.

AMC prime at empire 25 is awesome! I went there today, only the screen looks smaller, but all the others are superb. Just know this theatre exist from the comments below, it’s now my favorite theatre in nyc :)
AMC Prime is also 7.1/Dolby Atmos sound; far superior to IMAX 6.0 sound.
If I recall correctly, the basement screens have stadium seating but are not very good otherwise. I also think the Loews screen has stadium seating up in its balcony, but not for the downstairs section.
Also @ACS12, if you’re interested, The Revenant is now playing in IMAX as well, though at the Penn Station location, not Lincoln Square.
Then the IMAX auditorium is the only one with stadium seating. That explains why they don’t put ‘Stadium Seating’ as one of their theater amenities on the the Fandango website. I’m glad the Magic Johnson Harlem 9 theater is close to me. All of their screens have stadium seating. I’ll still go to the Lincoln Square theater for IMAX, though. They do have the biggest screen in NY after all.
Screens 1 – 9 Do not have stadium seating. But do have a good slope and have never had site problems. Screen 10, 11, 12 are in the basement and I have only been down there once and can not recall if they have stadium seating. These 3 theaters are fairly small and were added as an after thought.
