I don’t know….last time I saw a 3D movie was at the Clearview in Mansfield, where me and my dad snuck in the RealD glasses from showings of Journey to the Center of the Earth (which dad saw in Mansfield) and Nightmare before Xmas 3D (which I saw at Jersey Gardens with my cousin). The good thing is that any 3D glasses you get from the ticket tearer can be put into the RealD 3D bin. As for the IMAX 3D thing, will they have those goofy headsets that were used for non-digital IMAX 3D movies (i.e., Lincoln Square)? Having a small IMAX theater in a modestly large complex might be a mistake since moviegoers can go right across 287 to Palisades Center for a real IMAX experience (or wait until The Movie Experience opens Xanadu with real imax).
What’s up with the pricing structure of the “Christmas Carol” movie? The 2D versions offer a $6.00 morning show while the first showing of the 3D version is 12:05pm, thereby allowing the theater to charge the $11.50 price vs. the $9.00 price…even on weekends. Isn’t it enough we’re paying more for the 3D version to begin with? If this keeps up, people will start bringing in their own glasses to see a 3D movie on a 2D movie ticket, if they’re not doing it already. You’d have to have an employee standing in front of Theater 7 checking tickets to prevent this from happening. I can only imagine what they got planned once the IMAX is installed. Can anyone explain this?
From July to September, attendance at AMC’s theaters were down compared to last year, according to news reports. How about this theater? I know that in August they got the 3-D system to boost sales…and this coming quarter an IMAX 3D digital system will go live one week from today…I hope “Avatar” spikes business at the box office or else prices will go up again.
This weekend “Xmas Carol 3D” will still be playing.
Due to the popularity of the Twilight movie, more showtimes have been added, bringing the total to 8 (4 sold out, the other 4 available). Also, the first Twilight movie has an additional showtime, which is sold out, but there are two other showings. I already saw the first one on bluray and expect the sequel to do just as good…I heard from a friend of mine that the sequel is more dramatic and slow-paced than the first one, because she read the book. I plan on seeing “2012” this coming friday, whether or not it’s digital or not.
According to AMC’s website, the price charge for IMAX shows are $4, a dollar more than the 3-D 4k showings. November 19 is when the IMAX system goes live. On the website, you can add friends who have moviewatcher accounts ala Facebook. I found around 75 or so people who go to the Rockaway theater on the website. Maybe AMC should make an app for Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter users so that fans can integrate AMC content into the site in order to function better.
This movie will do good since it’s been awhile since a kid’s movie in 3D has done boffo business (look at Meatballs 3D). Plus it will be the first digital IMAX 3D movie to play in the new auditorium, with Avatar soon to follow (finally a 3D movie for grownups and sci-fi geeks like me) and many more to come. As for seeing which version, I’ll save money and pay for the 4k 3D movie rather than the liemax screen, since tickets will be more expensive than the digital 3D experience. When I first heard about AMC getting an IMAX theater, I thought it was going to be a building extension with a real IMAX screen and plenty of seats. Turns out that AMC de-supersized the IMAX dream and will cut off some seats and draw the screen closer.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the Reviewer(critics) percentage rose from (somewhere in the 50s) to 61% favorability just today, but the RT Community is 94% favorable. Go according to your tastes, not the critics. They are only giving their opinion and, if you read enough of them, they only wind up contradicting each other anyway. Some just don’t like 3D and will trash anything in 3D. How could all their training to be critics result in such disparity? And for this they get paid for it! They are no more qualified than you or I.
I read online that some reviewers didn’t like Xmas Carol in 3D because of Jim Carrey. I’ve seen too many versions of the same story…the 1951 version and the 1984 TV movie are the best versions, not to mention the Mickey Mouse version. I’ll wait and save my 3D movie money ‘til Avatar.
I guess the next IMAX 3D movie to be playing will be Xmas Carol, since it’s coming out three weeks late. Not only will Rockaway show another dumb Xmas movie starring Jim Carrey in digital 3D (Real D/Disney Digital 3D), but also in 35mm 2D and mini-IMAX digital 3D. And on December 18, the Avatar movie will be playing in IMAX 3D, Digital 3-D, and regular 2d 35mm. The trailer that was shown on TV during football and baseball on Fox yesterday and online was scope, which the 2D 35mm version is going to look like. The IMAX 3D version is a blown-up version of the digital 3-D version, which will be flat.
In other news, I read on Twitter that some moviegoers saw Kevin Jonas and his fiance, who is a resident of Denville, waiting in line to buy candy before seeing Paranormal Activity at the theater.
why? I guess they’re in high demand.
from what i heard.. it got pushed back due to low avaibility on the projectors from Sony….
Great news. Whatever happened to the 2nd 4K scheduled for Theater 15 (which would make the IMAX the 3rd digital system)?
imax pushed up.. now it will be up and running within 3 weeks..hurray!. lol
Full showtimes are now on…“This is It” is playing in 4k digital, making this the first 2d digital 4k movie playing at this theater. It was shot on 4k for most of the movie, combined with low-res images of interviews and news clips. I watched the commercials and the trailer in HD and it looks good.
As of right now, no other movie is listed other than “This is It” and an encore of the “Tosca” opera that was sold out this past weekend. What the heck is going on?
showtimes for movies other than “This is It” tomorrow are not up. Probably tomorrow we’ll see how many screens the new michael jackson movie will be on…probably a lot.
my mistake, they launched the website….uses lots of Flash…plus you can register to post reviews of movies on amc’s website as well as see pictures of the theaters themselves. 3D movies are branded as “AMC 3D”. The website for the theater has changed: http://www.amcentertainment.com/Rockaway
Now only if Clearview can make their page as attractive as AMC’s….
Looks like the website is down, but the movie tickets site is up.
New amctheatres Website going to be released today
Sadly, it’s only in 2d, and is playing before Saw VI, Amelia, and Astro Boy, all of which fell prey to Paranormal Activity, which AMC had at this and other theaters before others showed the movie such as the Clearviews, where they show it digitally (the movie was shot digitally on a low budget). Advance tickets are still available for the Michael Jackson movie, which is showing in 35mm at midnight. Perhaps they’ll show it on a 4k screen(alongside the 35mm screen) since that movie was shot on 4k (the concert footage)…I saw a commercial showing the movie in HD and he looked very healthy….it was too bad that the doctor who gave him the drugs made a bad mistake before Michael’s quest for regaining popularity.
for the fourth week, toy story 3d is still playing. why can’t they show nightmare 3d for the first time in this theater? also, a new avatar trailer will be shown one week before the online release.
partial showtimes for friday are now up at the amc movieticket site…will a 3d movie still be playing this weekend or will it be a digital presentation of an upcoming movie? Time will tell.
Just in time for the Christmas Carol movie…which will be a huge hit. I saw a trailer for the movie attached to All About Steve at the AMC in East Hanover and looks like a movie that will still play throughout Christmas on one screen, with Avatar playing on another 3D screen and the IMAX Digital 3D screen. This past weekend, other than Toy Story and Paranormal Activity, the matinee performance of a Met Opera, Tosca, was sold out. It’s too bad that AMC didn’t show a video game on a big screen, as Sony did with their 4k projectors to promote “Uncharted 2”, which Sony is advertising as a movie-like video game. A handful of select theatres, none AMC, showed the game on a big screen and several LED screens for audiences to play.
