If this theatre is going, going, gone, grab your cameras, run! not walk to the theatre and take pictures, inside , outside, day and night. If I was closer ( I’m in Michigan :( )I would be taking rolls and rolls of pictures. (I am really into marquees.)
If someone is going on closing night and they are tossing out marquee letters, grab me one. I have a growing collection of marquee letters, my fav’s are some metal letters I found at a dead drive-in.
I attended this theatre only once in 1982, when I lived there for a short time. I saw Making Love opening week. I wish I had attended more pictures here, but with double and triple features, and cheap prices at the Strand, I ususally went there.
In 1981 saw Maniac ,also Clash Of The Titans, in the main theatre. upstairs For Your Eyes Only, Escape From NY, Halloween 2, Cheech and Chongs Nice Dreams w/co fet. Next Movie. I would go alot, living only a couple blocks off the Boulevard.
I was lucky enough to see POLTERGEIST in 70MM at this theatre. I lived in SFO for a short time in early 1982.
My hometown had a twin theatre built in mid 70’s and the audtioriums were a match to the single screen Norhpoint.
No 70MM, and Dolby only in 1 auditorium, the screen that opened the original STAR WARS, It was only available ( at that time ) to theatres who had 70 and or Dolby Stereo. ( my hometown theatre twin went down in 1990.)
Such a sad ending, I would love to see a picture there. If anyone is in NYC, please take a camera and take pictures outside, and if possible, inside. :)

Nice theatre, also before going porn, it had also been run by General Cinema, there was boxes and boxes of envelopes behind the screen, I still have some.
Premiered Pacific Coast Highway / Class of 84. Wanted with the God of porn, Al Parker. He was present got to meet him, he was such a great guy. Met some other stars too. Big spot lights just like a big Hollywood premiere, only for a gay porn film. :)
Monroe Beehler was the owner, and old man Woody( manager if you can say that) sat at the concession stand puffing on packs and packs of Marlboro lights. I was the cashier and had a stand alone box office out on the sidewalk under the marquee. Later i was day manager concession and projectionest. It at this time was run under King theatres, a private ownership. They also had a theatre in SFO.
The theatre ran films in 16mm, but were scoped out to fill a wide screen, so imagine seeing a hot, steamy, sexy porn in a wide- screen format. pretty wild !!!!!
I often think of the people I worked with, Greg Cervantez, Bruce, James, and sometimes fill in, Rob Alexander, and Steve Koppe. It has been over 20 years now, I’m still standing, and I hope they are too. They have never been forgotten, the laughs, the fun, the buzz, always in my heart, Century Theatre.
I think i have a few pictures of the marquee, ill look for them and post them here.
My first job was at this theatre in 1980.It had already been split into a 3 screen by then. It was run by General Cinema. No Dolby Stereo,plane auditoruims,and crappy screens. this was one of 2 ‘arm pit’ theatres in Kalamazoo.( Eastowne 5 was the other)
Some of the pictures that ran while I was there : Friday the 13th ( pt, 1 !!), Xanadu, the Shining, Fame, Coal Miners Daughter, Blue Lagoon, The Nude Bomb,( a Maxwell Smart Get Smart for the big screen)
it was a bomb. Herbie Goes Bananas, re release of 101 Dalmations.

I saw many a triple feature in this dirty semi-unsafe place. I lived in LA in 81, my friend MELVY was a cashier here, her mother CONNIE was the manager of the VOGUE. I got a job at the HOLLY with a good word from MELVY and SHELLY WILSON (Holly employee who was running Claigulia at this time) Miss them, HI, GIRLS, Ive never forgotten you !!! love always Brad,
I would LOVE to come back to LA and be a part of helping restore these wonderful Palaces of the Dark.
I lived in LA in 81, worked down the street at the HOLLY CINEMA, saw many movies at the PACIFIC, only I was not fond of the balcony theatres, small and the picture were not centered properly, but bottom, main theatre was a nice large screen. I always wanted to look under the red drapery, because the rest of the theatre was in its ornate state and wanted to see that main room.
I worked at the Holly Cinema across the street in 1981, The Fox, closed for about 2 weeks and did a re model, they put blue track lights in the floor down the isles, i think new seats also, improved Dolby and I think also 70 mm. I saw a movie there before it was remodled. After , when I worked at the HOLLY, I went over to see ARTHUR, decent sized theatre 2 isles, no balcony. decent remodel. ( it was just a freshner, new carpet etc, nothing major).
I was in LA July 2001, and it was boarded up,and marquee dark.
Strange how you can still hear the ghosts of the films that played there.
I worked here just as Caligulia was ending its run. My managers were Lori Ham and Dewayne Stickney. I remember the projectionest crazy Steve too, I think he ran Caligulia too many times. :)
After Caligulia, we had, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Private Lessions, Escape From NY, Looker, The Night The LIghts Went Out In Gerogia,( there is a big Oscar picture ,LOL) For Your Eyes Only, to name a few, This theatre was a second run double feature house. It was ran by SRO, ( standing room only LOL !!!!!)
I think it sat approx. 450. The films came to us after opening in a first run house, and before it went to the VINE or the WORLD.
Those were the days , sure do miss them.
I was in Hollywood in July 2001, I could only find the space by address only, It has no recognizeable attractions to it today. It was a crappy little store that had 3 pairs of shoes in the window and a couple of cheap thongs on a rack in side for sale. Sad sad end to a fun theatre, even tho small. But the Egyptian 2 and 3 behind the Egypatian, were the smallest on the Boulevard.
The theatre was located on the north west corner of Hollywood Blvd at Normandie. The address was 5115 Hollywood Blvd.

YES, Jim was the main manager, I couldnt remember his name, but then again it was him, :) and under Jim was Lori and Dewayne.
