The screen tower was torn down sometime between 2006 and 2007. The concession building was gone by early 2000, only the foundation remains. The metal frame of the marque remains standing as of July 2018.

Went by the Town and Country on July 18th hoping to see a movie, but they are only open Friday through Sunday during the summer. I haven’t been by the drive in a few years, the outside of the concession building doesn’t look as nice as it used to. They have added two small screens, which are back to back of each other, to the left of the ticket booth as you enter the lot. There is nothing separating the screens from each other. The two lot areas are small with their own projection building.

I have some different information on this drive in. It was called the Bay drive in and opened June 1951. I have attached the opening ad from the newspaper. It was Bay City’s first drive in. The theater was located off of Highway 60 and Horn Road. The first movie shown was “Tulsa”. It used Simplex sound and projection equipment. The original screen measured 40 x 50.

driveinfan commented about Round-Up Drive-In on May 18, 2018 at 10:32 am

The Round Up drive in sustained major damage from Hurricane Carla in 1961. It remained closed until 1969 when it was finally repaired and reopened under the name of the Brazos Twin. In 1982, the drive in was damaged again. This time by Hurricane Alicia and was never repaired or reopened. The last operator was Ralph Wiest. All though there was no activity on the property, most of the facilities were still there into the early 90’s. The drive in was located between El Lago Road and Larkspur Road on Brazosport Blvd N. The large metal building on the property was once a dance hall place. In 2017 a new business came in. The concrete foundation of the old concession bldg. is still visible.

As of March 2018, the area of course is more grown up with weeds and cactus. The old ticket booth finally fell down. Can still see some of the old screen tower on the ground. The concession building is still standing, but in bad shape.

I had someone tell me there was another drive in located in Andrews at one time called the Sands. Opened in 1961 and closed in 1964. But didn’t remember the location of it. Said it was built by Wallace Blankenship. Does anyone else recall this drive in?

From my research on the Valley drive in, the name, “Derby Drive in” was never mentioned.

The property was sold in late 2015 and in early 2016 a heavy equipment company had moved in on the property. The concession building was torn down in early 2016. Just a matter of time before the old screen tower is taken down.

In 2015, the tower, ticket booth and projection booth were torn down. However, the concession stand remains standing surrounded by the storage buildings. The land was still for sale in 2016.

In March 2013 the skeleton screen tower was still standing but by August 2013 the tower was gone. The concession building was still there. Went by the location in 2014 and the pipe business that had been on the property was gone.

Maybe a better address might be 5710 W. I-20. The Big Spring Humane Society is on the back part of the drive in property.

The drive in location has been developed into more baseball/softball fields since 2007. The address, 1450 Shepherd Access Road is correct.
