Want to guess the cost for Paul Simone to paint both murals?? Remember the year was 1939.–
Those Seminude Paintings have a number of interesting stories behind them. Paul Simone was the artist and those paintings appear to be an afterthought as the original plans for the Miller called for a pipe organ. That idea was scratched at the last minute as the electronic Hammond organ was new to the market. Frank Miller’s wife wanted a pipe organ but due to cost overruns the Hammond won out likewise the artwork was inserted in place of pipes. Probably never noticed that one of the dancers has 2 left feet? I didn’t either until a gueston a recent tour pointed it out. Mystery – Was that Paul Simone’s signature?

The Miller was the first run A film showcase house in downtown Augusta. I remember the somewhat naughty seminude paintings of nymphs adorning the walls, the circular recessed interior lighting and the blazing, blinking marquee. It also had a lavishly furnished women’s lounge upstairs. Saw many a film there as a kid and on date nights as a teenager. Hope it can be saved.
After a nice run at National Hills “WALKING TALL PART 2” moves to the Miller on August 30 1975.Five showings!
The Augusta Chroncile in their 225 year celebration in sunday’s paper August 29 2010 snubs the MILLER and the World Premiere of “THREE FACES OF EVE”.Really surprizes me.It was a huge Sunday paper,I guess I could have missed it,but I don’t think I did. THE IMPERIAL was shown Three times and a whole page was set aside for the LENOX THEATRE!
August 1 1977 sees the MILLER playing YUL BRENNER in “SHADOW OF A KILLER” rated R.

Augusta Amusements will re-screen the 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” Saturday July 17th at Paul Simon Theater located in Ft. Discovery. There will be a Matinee screening at 2PM and an Evening screening at 7PM. Famed Munchkin, Karl Slover, from the original 1939 movie will join us in Augusta GA for this special event. I just realized the link above does in fact have a photo of the rear of the screen and a program. Click the Image Gallery and you’ll see the screen which is in-between two motels! Never seen any drive-in like this before.

Yeah Mike I saw that,I would not worry about it seems they like Stars Wars as much as you like 2001.Yes they did play in Memphis at the Colosium I saw Mccartney in Lexington Kentucky in 1990 and in Mempis in 1993 at the Liberty Bowl were the Tennessee Titans played their first games in Tennessee till their statuim was built.I knownw this is off-topic but Mccartney is coming to Nashville in July to play at the newly named Brigstone Arena,I am going to try and go.Maybe he will play at the Miller,now thats back on topic.

No they played in Atlanta at the then new Fulton County Studium,they even tore that place down.
