In case no one has noticed,the LA Times is listing it as “The Chinese Theatre & Chinese 6 Theatres” with only nighttime shows for both venues shown. Truly sad,indeed.
In an October 1968 issue of Box Office Magazine,it was noted that French director Claude LeLouch’s classic,“A Man and A Woman”,had just begun it’s third year playing at this thatre. It originally opened at The Crest,a few blocks away.
Ron,i asked this earlier but i hope you can answer:when was the left side of the original twin turned into a triplex? Also,when did the five screens in the back open?
This theatre can be seen during the “Lights and the Smiles” number in the movie “The First Nudie Musical”.(originally released by Paramount in 1975,rereleased by World-Northal in ‘77)
“The Reincarnation of Peter Proud” is the movie on the marquee.
I read(in the LA Times,i think)that the mall where the MJ Theatres are is going to be renovated/updated and,if the theatres are closed,a new theatre will replace it.
My first ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW experience was here Halloween 1987. I became of the performing cast a week later. Several months later,without warning,we were homeless until we started performing @ GCC Montcair Plaza 8.
Last movies i remember seeing there was a double feature of “SEE NO EVIL,HEAR NO EVIL” & “SCENES FROM THE CLASS STRUGGLE IN BEVERLY HILLS” That was in 1989.
It’s true! I saw SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER & LOOKING FOR MR. GOODBAR(both rated R)here with my folks in early 1978. I was 8 and LFMG scared the hell out of me. I think it was still this way when we moved to Las Vegas in March of 1979.

In January 2011,Regal will sign a deal to take over the theatre.
It will lose six of the twenty screens to make way for other uses such as restaurants,etc.
It’s actually called CASE 39,not 49. I hope they get LET ME IN.
Theatre 9,which seemed to be the largest of the 20 auds,had wheelchair seating in the back which was accessible via elevator.

I believe “The Gambler”,starring James Caan,played here in 1974. Or was it in the mall? I know i saw it in one of the two.

Rainbow Promenade was never a Kerasotes. It opened as a UA in the ‘80s. Regal/UA sold it to AMC.
One more question:in 1980,was the five screen building new or had it been previously occupied and then converted into a theatre?

Pacific is converting this venue into an Arclight venue.

I didn’t see Jaws in its original theatrical run in 1975.
My dad took my older sister,who was 7 at the time,to the Rosecrans Drive in to see it. I first saw it on tv in 1979.

Was it a single or a twin when it opened? Because,again i can’t see why they would cut up that big auditorium. They could have been add-ons.

Does anyone know when TESB opened @ Plitt Parkway 3 in Las Vegas,NV?
I think it was in 70mm. I do remember seeing it in the original big auditorium and it was quite loud. The line was literally around the building.
