The Golf Glen another of another mulitplex that closed last February to make room for the Showplace 12 at Golf Mill.
I know that Village Entertainment signed a ten-year contract with the North Riverside and supposed to do renovation (i.e. put stadium seating) to that theater. That has not been done yet since my last visit to that theater to see “Nacho Libre”.
Preview day movies include “The Da Vinci Code”, “The Devil Wears Prada”, “X-Men:The Last Stand”, “Monster House”, “The Ant Bully”, “The Lake House”, “Tellageda Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby”, “Click”, “Superman Returns” and “Lady In The Water”.
Opening day movies include: “Casino Royale” and “Happy Feet” (in the “big units”). Others include “Saw III”, “The Prestige”, “The Santa Clause 3”, “Borat”, “The Departed”, “Horrorfest – 8 Movies To Die For” and “Let’s Go To Prison”.
Went to the preview day saw “The DaVinci Code”. The theater does remind me of Cinemark Melrose Park but the seats are wider and also has adjustable armrests. I highly recommend the Showplace 12. The “Big Units” remind me of Cinemark Melrose Park’s screens 5 and 6.
I remember reading about it in the Star Sentinel (no longer published) about the demolition of the theater in 1972. There is some information in the centennial book: Melrose Park 1882-1982 book. It took almost three decades to have a theater return to Melrose that is Cinemark Melrose Park.
To mterracciano: I remember seeing “Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade” in 70MM. I’m not sure if they shown a 70MM print of “Temple Of Doom”. I remember that I could not get a seat when “E.T.” was being played (I believe it was in 70MM also).
In response to AMC’s AM Cinema, other chains in the Chicago are chicago are doing the following:
>> Millwaukee beased Marcus Theaters have a Early Bird Special in which admisson is $4 shows before 1:30pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.
>> Kerasotes (Springfield,IL based) (simular AMC’s AM Cinema) which is $5.00 before noon on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays at all Chicagoland theaters except he Rivertree Court and the Showplace 8 in Vernon Hills.
>> A few years back Cinemark had an early bird special in which the admission was $3.75 before the first show Mon-Thurs. Hopefully Cinemark does consider bringing this back.
As far as AMC’s AM Cinema, admission is $5.00 (before noon on Fri-Sun and Holidays) at all Chicagoland Theaters except the Randhurst, the Ford City 14, the Norridge, and the Chicago Ridge in which the admission is $4.00 (before noon on Fri-Sun and Holidays).
Some AMC theaters in the Chicago area the price is $5 before noon while other theaters are $4 before noon. It is available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only.
The Village is supposed to add stadium seating for the North Riverside Theater. The last two visits (when I saw “An American Haunting” and “See No Evil” I have not seen any theater with stadium seating yet.
Just drove by the Golf Mill, the 12-screen theater is currently under construction for a Fall, 2006 opening. I think the Golf Glen closed early in February, because Village Theaters did not want to compete and even though if that theater remained open, it would of shut down within a few months following the opening of the 12-screen theater.
Cinemark Melrose Park is a distant away from the Norridge. Even though the Cinemark is the closet theater to my house I also go to the Norridge to see a movie that is not playing at the Cinemark.
To CinemarkFan: Since your project is doing well, can’t wait for the Oakbrook 1-4 to be reopened! Since you plan on taking over the Village Theaters chain, hopefully imporvement at the North Riverside and the reopening of the River Oaks are accomplished.
The only thing I know that it was located in the shopping center (in which a Menards store is located) on the East side of Rte. 53 and South of I-55. It was a small (kind of like a shoebox type of building) and it was located in the back of the shopping center.
Will the Village Theaters reopen 1-6 only or will they also reopen 7-8 and 9-10? I know they are doing a facelift on the North Riverside Theater but will they do the same for the River Oaks and the Lincoln Village 1-6?

Another update to Cineplex Odeon proposal:
Renvoation of the Esquire – closed, soon to be demolished

To CinemarkFan: Theater #1 was a big auditorium. Theaters #2 and #3 were small (per Life’s too short’s comment).
To mterracciano: I remember seeing “Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade” in 70MM. I’m not sure if they shown a 70MM print of “Temple Of Doom”. I remember that I could not get a seat when “E.T.” was being played (I believe it was in 70MM also).

Number of seats for Cinemark Melrose Park is 2900.
This theater is now owned by the Nova Cinemas chain in which they also own the Nova 8 Cinemas (formally Westridge Court) in Naperville.
This theater along with the Webster Place will become a Kerasotes Theater as a result of the merger between AMC-Loews.

To CinemarkFan – Cinema City sounds good.
At least River Oaks 1-6 will be reopening (by the people at Jenco). River Oaks 9 and 10 is going to the wreking ball, how about 7 and 8?
Cinemark Melrose Park is a distant away from the Norridge. Even though the Cinemark is the closet theater to my house I also go to the Norridge to see a movie that is not playing at the Cinemark.
Take that back, that name is already taken.
That’s it! Roxy Theatres.
I would have to think about that. If I ever come up with a name, I have to make sure that it is not a registered trademark.
