I had the best time I’ve had in a movie theater seeing The Beekeeper here early this year.

In the late 80s I was in a production of The Fiddler on the Roof that played at this theater as, like, a pop-up production. I still have those memories.

I met the owner of the building during Open House Chicago this past weekend and he says the Wilson was never a movie theater but a house for burlesque and vaudeville.¯_(ツ)_/¯

I saw so many art house films here in the late 90s/early 00s including Way of the Gun, Ghost Dog, and Eve’s Bayou. I also saw Topsy Turvy, Princess Mononoke, and Dancer in the Dark (3 times!). The latter three were in the balcony of a larger theater. I was in the Studebaker recently, and initially thought it was there. Now, I think it was in the Playhouse. I’m not clear on how these theaters were carved up into smaller houses. My memory is there were 3 small theater in a rear space and one large one with a balcony.

I saw sooo many movies at this theater in 98/99. Off the top of my head I saw Run Lola Run, The Loss of Sexual Innocence, The Opposite of Sex, Buffalo 66, Blair Witch Project, and these are what is off the top of my head. I also saw The Perfect Storm there which was a perfect storm of awful. I remember the popcorn. My boss, who I went with, wanted to go there for the real butter.
