I saw the doors open a week or so ago. I walked up to the doorman and asked what was going on, and he told me renovating. So maybe the signs are down because it will be re-opening soon.

The HBS (Historical Building Society) told me it WOULD be operating as a movie theater. I am so confused.

Just to let it be known – I drove past and spoke with one of the guys on site. The lobby and auditorium still look marvelous – I really don’t trust them with their doing!

Bastards. They told me they were going to preserve the screen for repertory screenings. I will be really put out if this is not the case.

Why they didn’t just restructure it to the way it was BEFORE the plexing is beyond me. There aren’t going to be enough movies to fill all the screens in about two years. Theatrical releases are going to be less. They should have redesigned. Losers!

The theatre is vacant now. Someone can re-open and show new/older movies. Come, come now!

Drove by it this morning. Looks almost completely gutted. Hope they restore it to the original decor it once showcased back when the biggies were hitting the screen.

Is there a way that kind of act can be, well, undone? Forgive my softening newness to the subject.

Is the projection equipment still available?

Anything is possible. Are you saying that the auditorium was leveled?

Sacrilege! They should have this theater in operation!

How can we get ahold of the imbeciles who approved an apartment complex in the theaters place? That is beyond ridiculous. The theater could still see some good times. If anybody has this information, please give it to me in a reply, or PM me.

I feel the same way, Moviemanforever. I live for movies as well, and live in L.A. where there are a few houses left that screen 35mm classics!

Has this theatre been demolished? I have driven by the X twin which supposedly is right next to it, but I can’t for the life of me remember seeing a building for this one!

They really need to put up a more representative picture. The one they have, of the fire, is disgusting and a misguided way to show the drive-in off.

Wait a minute! Is the auditorium still there? It better be.

SOMEONE, Alamo, American Cinematheque, Tarantino, SOMEONE should check this theater out. Restore it to it’s original screen structure. Do you SEE the auditorium pics? Classic big screen fantastic for movies like “Jaws”, “Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”, “Ben Hur”, and others. To see these classics on the big screen again – how very!

CStefanic commented about Park Lane Twin Theatre on Apr 29, 2013 at 2:09 pm

The worst has finally come to happen. The Park Lane, as it still stood from its exterior, has been remodeled over by the Wright Business School. For may years, the lobby space, restrooms and whole exterior remained while the rest of the building was gutted on the inside, theaters and all. Now it’s all gone. Truly a shame, as the Park Lane ws the Premier Movie House for roadshow attractions. I have the newspaper clipping from when it opened, and will do my best to upload those photos.

The last picture that ever showed there, was Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” in it’s initial 1993 run. Saw the film there as it was screened on both screens. The closing and subsequent demolition were imminent, and the lobby was pretty bare, save for a Jurassic Park arcade game and a few merchandisings. It was a pretty haunting atmosphere. I have an old newspaper photo showing one of the “Star Wars” films where the line wraps around the theatre. I will try to post it This theater needs some old coverage.
