After reading the overview and seeing photo’s of screen 1 & 2 it seems strange that “1” was for Roadshows yet the screen in “2” seems to be bigger “image wise”. The same can be said of the old Odeon at Bradford.I saw a photo of the opening films for Nottingham Odeon and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was on in screen “2”, it was shot in Ultra Panavision 70mm.
According to the information listed on the above webpage, this is where the Empress once stud. Whilst looking for this place I did find The playhouse on Eccles Road.
A report in today’s local paper says that there is a plan to turn it into a restaurant. Lets hope the same fate has the Kings Heath cinema don’t happen here.!! WWW.thisisderbyshire.co.uk

Two recent photos on The28dayslater site show the rear of this cinema being demolished. Believed to be for conversion to a Weatherspoons pub.

A fire this morning, roof has collapsed. All very suspicious.
