Just checked out the listings for the theatre and now it’s closed for renovations? Why?
what type of sdds does the parsippany cinema have in theatre #1? 8 channel or the six channel type?
You’re right, John. When the new rockaway megaplex opens later this year, it will hurt the parsippany theatre’s business as well as many of the clearview cinemas, since the loews chain is larger than clearviews.
I was there over the weekend, in theater #4, one of those larger houses and had a problem finding a seat, the theater was only 25% filled but a lot of the seats (which have been in opperation for 11 years now) are falling apart or bent in odd ways from use. And this is a first run house that charges more than Clifton Commons and Essex Green (due to the fact they don’t offer student rate anymore, the adult rate of 9.50 is equal to that of Clifton). The customer service is good and the snack bar has been upgraded several times (they now serve chicken fingers), but quite honestly I spend more time in the auditrium then I do at the concession stand or in those repainted hallways.
Clearview is a small and frugal chain, they’re building two new screens at Cinema 10 (without stadium seating) and have replaces the seats there, yet Cinema 12’s seats are uncomfortable and in need of retirement. The theater I was in was in simular shape to that of an 11 year old discount house. Granted they are a small chain, but they charge the same price (or more) as the larger chains theaters so we should all demand the same quality movie going. I probably won’t be there again for a while.
Saw Elizabeth town in the big theatre, and boy, it is my favorite of all the theatres! Seating that reminds me of the Loews Wayne theatre, and all around Dolby Digital surround sound and a medium-sized picture. Plenty of seats, too!
I agree, John. Cinema 10 got an upgrade, why not Cinema 12? I suggest you send an email to Johannes Hoffman, the guy who does the renovations for some of the CLearview Cinemas, including Cinema 10, to repair the Parsippany cinema. I’ll be there next weekend to see Elizabethtown.
The theater in general needs an upgrade. Clearview is amazing in that they can charge 9.50 without offering the same ammenties as other theaters at this price level (noteably Clifton Commons and Essex Green with their stadium seating, newer and more comfortable seats). Cinema 12’s theatres are in need of repair, ironic that they have spend so much effort on fixing up their concession stands. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: I spend more time in the auditirium than I do in the lobby. It’s time for Cinema 12 to get an upgrade.
Went to see “Corpse Bride” in the rain, and a big chunk of the front sidewalk near the entrace is flooded out witha big puddle! That should be fixed in awhile; it was packed, but the theatre was number 5 with digital surround sound and a decent picture.
The first time I went to this theatre to see “Wedding Crashers” (which was shown in Theatre 3, a small theatre with Dolby Stereo surround sound), it was packed and the crowd was laughing. The picture was pretty good, but the lobby was humongous and the parking lot is pretty big. It’s a pretty convienient location to go to when the nearby Succasunna theatre closes for renovations. The lobby looks like something out of a Regal Cinema with large widescreen TVs showing previews. THere is also a large arcade room as well.
I just thought of this last night when I was there: that glass lobby design is a homage to General Cinema- which formerly sat on this site (see General Cinema Troy Hills) from what I gather. If it was built before the 80’s it probably had that open glass lobby design.

It opened briefly for a week with only six screens (they were still working on the others). The referbished snack bar now features hot foods.
Originally built by Nelson-Ferman Enterprises, this is Clearview’s most profitable location. It opened in December, 1994. Its lobby and concession area were recently refurbished, and the sound was upgraded. Theatre #2 is the biggest with 406 seats.
