Alice will be playing in digital 3d on several screens tomorrow at this theater.

When I grew up, I never saw a movie in 70mm at this theater, since some of those movie were aimed at grown-ups. 70mm disappeared when the two screens were split and digital surround sound was installed. The first time I heard DTS was during a showing of the Jurassic Park sequel “The Lost World”, which I saw twice at this theater. During the second showing, the print was spliced somewhat (the previous showing was on a rainy day, and that was on opening weekend), but the sound quality was much better than the last time, in which there was stuttering. Back when Loews/Sony ran this theater, they used to advertise a lot for Sony Products and the Sony/IMAX theater, not to mention have Sony Playstation consoles for tryout.

looks like another digital screen was added. “Michael Jackson’s This is It” and “Xmas Carol 3D” are playing on those screens.

What screen has 4k projection? I hope it’s one of the big ones.

The first movie that’s playing is “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”, which Clearview is also showing. Now only if Movietickets.com and Fandango merge that would make life easier for AMC Moviewatcher users to order tickets through one site rather than two.

Any updates on when 4k projection is coming to this theater?

Just a quick comment to those favoring DLP: Be very careful what you wish for. When properly projected, a good clean 35mm print will put on a far better show than DLP is capable of. However, the problem is getting quality presentation. As a former multiplex projectionist from way back, I can tell you that cutting costs by putting kids in the booth is false economy. Miss a roller or two, get a brainwrap or throw a print and there goes your film advantage in five seconds flat.

If the film path is meticulously cleaned after each show, the gate and trap scoured, sprockets cleaned, etc, you should be able to get 3 to 6 months out of a print. When I ran reel-to-reel is was very common to get a perfect show from a print for over a year. I ran The Last Emporer in 70mm for 10 months and aside from a damaged surround track (thanks to some residual magnetism somewhere in the soundhead), it was perfect quality from beginning to end. These days, if you get 2 weeks out of a print it’s a sodding miracle. Feh.

Will project for food <grin>.

Do they still use those large screen TVs in the lobby near the box office counters as well as the lights on the ceiling?

From what I heard from my stepmom, most of the employees who went to that showing loved it. That movie did better than anyone expected to be. Since AMC took over, do they still do those “COming Attractions” screenings? I used to like it when they had it at this theater and other nearby Loews/Sony locations. I think in order to bring moviegoers back to Wayne, they should retrofit the seats to be stadium seating and add 4k DLP to every screen, in order to compete against Clearview’s Wayne Preakness, which has one DLP screen and is doing fine business and better security than this large towering megaplex.

This coming Thursday, April 2, “Fast and Furious” will have an advanced screening for BP North America employees who work at the nearby Wayne office. BP’s Castrol product is featured in all four Fast and Furious movies, which have been played at this theater for a select number of people who wanted to go see this popular franchise. My stepmom is not going since she is busy doing work at the office.

I know. Google loews wayne in google news archives and there’s articles about fights, brawls, and people tearing down posters of movies in the theater. I had never had any problems going to the movies at this theater in the past, before the security issues increased as attendance shifted towards the newer theatres like Clifton Commons.

Security is very bad around the theater. Had a car stolen from the parking lot several years ago. The parking lot lighting was also bad and made it very unsafe

The new theater in Paterson will cause attendance to decline at this theater, since it’s location is not too far from Route 80. Unless AMC installs stadium seating and dlp, this theater will last only a few years and become more retail space.

So far, I haven’t read anything about anything being shown in digital in Wayne, East Hanover, and Secaucus (save for Episode I in the 6-plex). Too bad they didn’t keep the 70mm projectors before splitting the two large houses up. Boy I’d wish I’d seen a movie in those screens, although they shown mostly grown up fair when I first went to the Wayne theater. Since AMC bought Loews, I can now use my Moviewatcher card and use movie passes at this theater.

To answer Justin’s question a lot of plexes are removing SDDS units from their theatres and replacing them with Dolby Digital Cinema Processors (CP-650).

When the Secaucus theaters close, this theater will be the oldest Loews in North Jersey still running under AMC. Probably within 10 or so years, it will be replaced by a stadium seating theater attached to a mall like the one in Garden State Plaza or Essex Green or the new one opening up near Bridgewater Commons.

As the new batman movie arrives, I’ve seen two batman movies at this theater. I was too young to see the first two, which I thought was a bit creepy and boring, but I really enjoyed Batman Forever in 5.1 SDDS (my first digital surround sound experience) in one of the large auditoriums. This was back when it was 8 screens. The next Batman movie I saw was a doozy. Batman and Robin in 5.1 SDDS in the same auditorium, and it was on a couple of the 14 screens during that expansion. I missed seeing Batman Begins but saw it on DVD, and now I’m ready for Dark Knight. One question, are all the sound systems in each screen now Dolby Digital instead of SDDS? Is this also the same in the other former Loews theaters (such as Secaucus and East Hanover)?

Even though the theater has changed hands somewhat and increased its screen total while shrinking two of its larger screens showing 70mm format film, it still works since its not too far from a busy mall that attracts shoppers on sundays when the bergen malls are closed.

I would hope this one doesn’t close, I have been going to movies here for some six or seven years now and have always liked doing so. Though for some reason yesterday, I just sat and looked at the outside of the theater for a few minutes, wondering how long it might be there in today’s disposable society.

actually, right now the theater serves mostly Wayne and surrounding areas and until the Paterson multiplex opens, will serve there too. However, the sevice will be continually bad. When theatre chains gripe about low box-office, it’s not only the crummy movies that are coming out but many people are saying they’d rather rent/buy the DVD and watc it in the comfort of your own home without all the rudeness surrounding you.

Not to mention cranky seniors and babies. I’d wish they kept the Reel Moms program, not to mention updating their projection to be more like other AMC theaters in NJ such as the one in rockaway, which was supposed to be a Loews until the AMC deal went through. Pretty soon this theater will become a Wal-Mart or Lowes, just like the old tenplex in Paramus will become.

I saw FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL in the upstairs theater a few weeks ago. The projector lamp went out for about 10 minutes. I had to go out an yell down at an employee….I was told, they were working on it…TRANSLATION: there’s no one in the booth where they should be and they have to wake up one of he high school employees who is downstairs chilling with his buddies to slow walk up stairs and hit a switch. They didn’t even hand out passes for such bad service. I didn’t evn ask. I always sneak into other movies ayway…as a way of getting my money’s worth. Lousy theater service, the past few times I’ve been there…my high def TV and DVD’s are looking better and better. If it weren’t for teenagers going to see lousy teen movies, theaters would be bankrupt.

Since Clifton Commons opened, has attendance at this theater declined? I bet it did.
