Shaking seats and scents would be disastrous for me and anyone else who has a disability that would be effected by that plus allergic to scents.
No they did not Mike (saps). They welcomed it. Of course the movies that were made with those processes were movies with real stories, not the 90% of the crap they put out today. Just my opinion.
I would welcome Technicolor movies in ‘scope with stereo sound, but will pass on vibrating chairs with scents and “what it is liked to be pissed on by a monkey”

hdtv267, I thought so too. I think they are talking about all the ra ra bells and whistles and crap that I have no desire to sit thru. Being a projectionist since 1975 and coming from a family of projectionists, I could care less about shaking seats, recliners, spraying scents, digital laser crap, and sound that blows my eardrums out. But yes it seems that’s all that matters these days here, especially for a few select AMC plexes.

It’s an amazing (if increasingly expensive) time to be a downtown cinefile, folks. First the East Village’s AMC got recliners, then Metrograph opened on the Lower East Side, and now the news that’s really going to knock you off your feet: 4DX, the South Korean technology that causes your seat to buck and sway with the action, is finally, finally set to debut at the Regal Union Square Stadium 14. The first film to use the technology in New York City, Batman v. Superman, opens March 25. A second auditorium will open in Times Square in April.
Let’s not forget: this goes beyond just hydraulic seats that pitch you forward mechanical-bull-style every time Superman takes a nose dive or sideways every time he dodges a meteor. Scents piped into the theater will presumably reproduce the smell of Clark Kent’s cologne while puffs of water from the seat in front of you will likely simulate the feeling of being spritzed with it. (Sorry, all of my Superman references are from the ’80s. You expect me to watch a Superman movie as a grown man? Actually, with 4DX in play, I just might.) To get an idea of what the 4DX experience is like, read our writeup of a Star Wars screening in Bogota. As noted when we broke news of 4DX’s arrival (originally expected by the end of 2015), the technology even shows you what it’s like to be pissed on by a monkey.
The 4DX auditorium at Union Square will be followed by the opening, on April 28, of another at the Regal E-Walk 13, in Times Square. They’re just the third and fourth in the nation to undergo the costly conversion to 4DX, which exists in some 228 theaters in 37 countries. The first US auditorium opened in Los Angeles in 2014 and generated $1.7 million in revenue, triple that of the previous year.
You’re probably wondering how much tickets will cost. That’s still uncertain, according to a spokesperson for CJ 4DPLEX. Last time we checked, 4DX tickets in Los Angeles were $16. It’s safe to assume they’ll cost more than that at Regal Union Square, where regular tickets are $15.60 to begin with. One word: brace!

ON a quick trip to NYC this weekend from London…caught Spotlight…great picture but what a dump…Badly lit inside Concessions emptied out for a 9pm show on a Sunday night What a treat to have reserved seating in most multis here in the UK This theatre badly needs an update or reconfiguring

This theater will be one of 30 that will show the new star wars teaser this weekend before its global release next month. Interstellar had a 35mm release here a few weeks ago.

It has all the charm of the Port Authority Bus Terminal; all that’s missing are announcements of departure times and gate assignments.

The theatre opened on November 13th, 1998 and the premiere engagements were Meet Joe Black (on four screens), I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (on three screens), Dancing At Lughnasa (on two screens), Lolita (the remake), There’s Something About Mary, Saving Private Ryan, Welcome To Woop Woop and Citizen Kane (a special reissue for the theatre’s opening).
back in ‘99 I think Phantom Menace had its very first public preview screening at this theatre?
Going to get even worse if Regal ever decides to get rid of the union projectionists, like they did around the rest of the country.

I’m surprised that the city health inspectors haven’t shut down the theatre from the rodent issues like they did with that Taco Bell.
I’ve never been to New York but if I do come, I probably won’t go here due to my fear of rats and mice.
Off the top my head movietickets.com does it for certain theaters (IFC Center) and I think Film Forum lists what shows in what theater, but there is no online source to the best of my knowledge and I really do wish their was – especially for Union Square. However, I don’t think would theaters want that out there (unless they are advertising its on a “Super Screen” “I-Max” or in “DLP Digital Cinema”) – its like a bait and switch. Sometimes you can figure it out if you call the theater and get their recorded show time line, but too often those lines refer you into a central call center which sucks because I’ve had an experience where a theater chain has made a data entry error and the wrong film was reported online, to the papers and on the theater’s voice recording. The result, I showed up to an AMC in New Jersey to see Idiocracy only to be told I had been sold a ticket through movietickets.com for Jackass (even though I had my confirmation stating I had 2 adult tickets for Idiocracy). There is a world of difference there, I wouldn’t trust such a listing if it existed, sorry because theater size changes at some locations daily and by showtime, and even at the last minute. You know who would have this information, the movietickets.com and the fandangos that offer the ability to print your tickets at home, I wish they’d offer that up without having to drop $12 and a service fee per ticket.
Does anyone know an online source that lists BY SCREEN NUMBER what movies are playing at this theater? I hate showing up and then learning that my movie is playing on the dinkiest screen in the theater. The NYT prints this info in its weekend edition, but you can’t find it online.
I just wanted to get any feedback on the “Original Halloween” screening over the last 2 nights at certain Regal/AMC theaters nationwide. It was from a HD source(720P?).
I saw Halloween in NYC Hallowen night & was pretty disappointed. While it wasn’t an ntsc dvd, it was disappointing for no screen masking to cover up 2.35 letterboxing on the HD.I do so enjoy seeing 2 different blacks on display. It also came from the pre-show projector which to me, is not a good way to market Digital Cinema.The theater should use the higher quality projectors when they are charging us normal admission.
I was also hoping they could’ve removed more grain in the HD transfer.
When it was over, I would’ve preferred a slightly dirty film print.
Can anyone give me more technical info and/or observations.
