If the film wasn’t filmed in imax or enhanced probably letterbox filling the whole 90 feet. Probably didn’t finish the 3d installation. Cross our fingers with rogue one
I just got off the phone with them, and they said they got new IMAX 3D glasses in. So she thinks it’s just for this movie it’s not in 3D

Fantastic Beasts will not fill the entire screen. You could actually check on IMDb->Technical Specs->Aspect Ratio, 1.44:1 = entire screen, 2.35:1/1.85:1 and all the other ratios = black bars top and bottom, and 1.85 is bigger than 2.35
I believe Dunkirk will be the next upcoming movie with such ratio.

@xbs2034 The first Laser IMAX showtime will be 9pm tonight.
@XapNoiro Laser IMAX can definitely do 3D, no idea why they do 2D for FB, but i believe majority of the future releases will be in 3D.
Maybe a silly question… I saw Interstellar at Lincoln Square and the entire screen was used. Can’t remember what I watched last time I was there but the whole screen was not. Will Fantastic Beasts fill the screen?
So, does this mean that this IMAX location will no longer be showing in 3D???
The new Imax capacity is 512 seats. They lost 88 seats
First IMAX showings currently listed are for Saturday. It will play in IMAX 2D here, meaning the IMAX 3D version (which uses frame breaks with IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio) will only be at Empire 25 in Manhattan.

That is very promising but as of yet, there are no tickets available for Imax. I hope it changes soon.
According to the AMC guest service, this IMAX is planning to open this Friday, if this is the case, the tickets should be on sale tomorrow, maybe this midnight.

Celboy: tickets are on sale for this coming weekend in 4k/3D/120 for Billy Lynn. What happened was this (and the LA screen with that format) had a one week exclusive window to the film before it hit any other theaters.

Re: Billy Lynn HFR was in theater 2 Kings Theater. It appeared like a standard theater—no atmos speakers above, I believe the movie only runs a week in this mode.
I saw laser at AMC Unversal in Hollywood. It was great. The seats were not replaced Also the TLC Chinese was great also

The ‘new’ IMAX theater doesn’t look that much different than other IMAX installs. Seats don’t appear comfy cozy.
Any pics of the theater that shows the new Billy Lynn movie? Did they remodel that to accommodate the tech upgrades for the movie? Or, is the theater just your standard shoebox auditorium with projector upgrade for the HFR 4K projection? I’m reading the sound is supposedly Atmos or Atmos-like.
First person-type films make the best presentations. Just straight up dramas waste the format, imho, unless you like to count the pores on the actor’s faces or note other detractions. :) My memory of Showscan recalls vivid imagery and sound. The thing is the shorts kept repeating some of the shots over that the ‘newness’ of the hyperrealism causes the magic to wear off.

I saw it last night @ 7pm and not crowded either. Some images were quite amazing while some were “a little too close”. I wonder if this format maybe better suited for short form. It is like “being there”. Its almost like another art form. To me, they were experimenting with the technology more than making a film. I also wonder how the normal 24fps deliverable will look & feel…..I would think overall very, very forgettable compared to this presentation. Almost not worth seeing at all in the other format.
I just saw it, and the visual is amazing. I would say the picture quality is even better than 70mm/laser IMAX and Dolby Cinema. Well, maybe they are not comparable since Billy’s source format is 4K/120fps, and the screen in King auditorium is small. The 3D is bright, and you can tell it’s real 3D. Although I don’t like the movie, the visual is a once in a life experience.wonder if they are going to keep that expensive projector in that old auditorium.
Anyone interested in seeing “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” in the high frame rate version shouldn’t wait long. Attendance at the Saturday (2nd day of release) 10:00 am show in the Kings auditorium was startlingly sparse—-probably no more than a couple of dozen people. Having been to many opening weekend bargain matinees at the Lincoln Square, that’s an unusually poor showing, especially since the film is playing there exclusively and in only one auditorium.
