Slimshady, any word on when more digital projectors arrive at this theater?
Just checked the amc rockaway ticket pricing…it’s up by $.50!!! Now AMC is more expensive than Clearview….although they have the AMCinema program.

…actually it’s $7.5 million in the url. It’s no New Moon, but should do well this weekend to dominate the box office at this theater this weekend. I’ve seen the trailer for babies and it will do well for moms day on sunday. That movie has gotten a lot better reviews than Iron Man 2, and will have legs and good word of mouth.
The midnight showing of Iron Man 2 in liemax is sold out, even though I won’t go see it in that format.
Looks like one screen will be used for Dragon 3D and Clash 3d and the other will be for Iron Man 2 in digital. Any word on more digital installations Slimshady soon, or is it held back? I was hoping that more digital screens would be added in the weeks to come.

maybe AMC should show that series in 3D as customers don’t want to fork out extra cash for a 3D tv and glasses.
I know. That theater is in times square, not rockaway. Thankfully the AMC’s Empire won’t show it in liemax as they’re showing How to Train Your Dragon 3D in that format (Loews Kips Bay and 34th street will show it in liemax). The only real place to go there is the AMC Lincoln Square in IMAX as well as Palisades Center IMAX.
Your not going to see it at the Regal E-Walk 13 in “RPX” Regal Premium Experience. “Iron Man 2” opens there on Friday.
Checking showtimes for this coming friday, Iron Man 2 will be playing on two digital screens while Clash 3D and Dragon 3d will share one screen. What theater will get the digital install on friday? I’m ready to see Iron Man 2 digitally rather than a blurry 35mm print or a fake IMAX theater.
Justin, the second piece, entitled “Oven Clean Sparked Fire” was my close friend’s house. I was with him today. He and his parents are in temporary housing on Route 10.

Iron Man 2 will be on the IMAX screen next weekend and will stay there for three weekends until Shrek 4 comes out. It marks the first time that the Rockaway IMAX will show a 2D film.
I wonder how many of those WB IMAX movies will be 3D. If we’re talking 2013, I bet almost all. What will be on the IMAX screen after AVATAR and DRAGON leave? SHREK doesn’t start until May 21st. BTW, it’s getting lousy reviews but that won’t stop SHREKKIES (not to be confused with TREKKIES) from seeing it.
BTW, How to Train Your Dragon is having its last legs in digital 3D before leaving the theaters this weekend. Avatar is having its last weekend in IMAX 3D (same for Dragon). Alice is the only reald film to be shown and Clash will be in 2d form. Nightmare returns to Rockaway (the last nightmare movie, Wes Craven’s New NIghtmare, was at the old AMC in Rockaway) in form of a remake, and Furry Vengeance marks Brendan Frasier’s return to Rockaway since the third Mummy movie, which did ok in America but made lots of moolah outside the world. Sucks that Iron Man 2 isn’t playing here but in England on Friday. Can’t wait to hear what the box office is like.

I wouldn’t think Dark Knight nor even Avatar by any means (the latter got pushed out early). Also keep in mind that back in the 80’s even an only semi-decent hit would hang from May to September, now only mega-ultra-giants hit doing anything like that and that some movies mega-movies could go for like a full year!
I recall Titanic stayed around for a LONG time. That’s the only semi-recent movie that come close to how long stuff like Star Wars, ET, Jaws and all that sort of stuff did I’d bet.
Certainly SW1-3, DK, Avatar held pretty long, maybe shockingly long for this day and age, but this day and age is BOOM first weekend take and then quickly fade away, for the most part.
Heck, I bet even the last Rambo hung around just about as long as DK and Avatar.
Great question, Justin! Don’t know about Rockaway, specifically, but, from what I’ve researched, here are the top five (after ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW which has been showing continuously since 1975 mostly at midnight): E.T. (over a year), STAR WARS (44 weeks), TITANIC (41 weeks), BACK TO THE FUTURE (37 weeks), BEVERLY HILLS COP (30 weeks). If you include the old Rockaway (inner and outer), I’ll bet their numbers run pretty close.
What movie holds the record for longest run at this theater JJD? I would think of “Avatar”, “Dark Knight”, and any blockbuster that had long legs.
I do remember Smell-O-Vision. The movie was “Scent of Mystery” (1960) and theatres would emit fragrances into the auditorium to correspond with what was on the screen. Then there was Odorama. The movie was “Polyester” (1981) where you received a scratch n' sniff card and were told to scratch a particular number when that number appeared on the screen. “The Tingler” (1959) had certain seats “tingle” whenever the Tingler came on the screen. How bout Sensurround (“Earthquake”, “Rollercoaster”, “Midway”, “Battlestar Gallactica”) with that low frequency vibrating sound…pretty effective. Today’s theme parks call some of this stuff 4D and use water mists, air, moving seats (like D-box), etc. to further enhance the 3D experience. Wonder if we’ll see 4D become more mainstream.
I agree. 3D makes those movies look more realistic and fun to watch alongside the digital surround sound. Remember smell-o-vision, JJD? They should bring it back and maybe D-box seats could come to rockaway (they can be bought for home use but at a price).
Conversion Madness: The Last Airbender, Green Hornet, 300. But I’m reading that it’s getting better (more roundness on otherwise flat layered objects). I think we’ll see the day when we can’t tell the difference and they won’t need to announce which movies were converted in the first place. Most people don’t understand (or care) about the technical stuff.
I read online that 300 will be converted into 3D in the near future…the director said that the conversion of the first 10 mintues of the film looked pretty good, as the director, Zack Snyder, has his next movie, “Sucker Punch”, to come out in 3D. I also read online that the new “Shrek” got bad rep from those who seen it at the Tribeca Film Festival. Also worth noting is that the movie “The Back-Up Plan”, like “Wolverine”, is avaiable to download for free online. Looks like a slow box office weekend with no new good movies. Maybe Iron Man 2 will save the box office in two weeks.

btw, AMC Select is now called AMC Independent for indie films. I’ll probably see Iron Man 2 in digital rather than the Digital IMAX as the IMAX will be a windowed-boxed version of the widescreen film as the film wasn’t shot with imax cameras.
