The only camera I had available at the time was one of those drug store drop offs with no means to adjust the shot for overcast skies. The low rectangular appendage on the left of the building is the entrance to the third auditorium from the lobby.
The theatre was still standing when I last visited the Sharpstown area about 10 years ago. It was being used as some sort of indoor sports complex with a jungle theme.
There were at one time about four other theatres in this area, the Lyons, Roxy, Globe and Venus. It has been a couple of years since I was last in Houston, but I recall seeing two building on Lyons Blvd, which resembled theatres. One was an ornate vacant building that might have been the Roxy based on its proximity to the Eastex Expressway. Further east of the Eastex was a church that I believe was the former Lyons Theatre. These are the only two theaters like structures that I can remember from this area.
The Bohm is currently a triplex. Don’t know if two new auditoriums were built from the ground up or if the orignial auditorim was split. A rather detail history of the theatre at View link
.
I show a listing in the IMPA 1988 59 edition for a Paramount Theatre at 827 White Station Rd, Memphis 38138. I think that the theatre opened in 1969 and was twined during the 1970s. I do not know if the building still remains or if it was demolished after its closing in the early 1990s.
The Melrose centre was purchased recently and plans are underway to redeveloped it as an upscale retail centre. Although these plans to do not include the bowling alley, nothing has been said about the old theatre. It would be great to see it in operation again.
I came across a article that stated the Roxy was at one time equipped with an organ. Do you have any information as to when the organ was in place, how many ranks it had and when was it removed?
Jefferson Circle is the connect between Lincoln Rd and Jefferson Ave. There is some confusion about this theatre. Individuals who I have corresponded with from the Oak Ridge area claim that the Oak Ridge Playhouse was previously called the Jefferson. It might have been although I haven’t located any record to date with the same address as the playhouse that went by any other name than the Centre Theatre.
During a visit to the area was in April 2005, the Delk was was still in operation. I did a check on the Regal site this evening and noticed that the Delk is no longer included in their listing. I recall that Kings attempted to build a complex near Dave & Busters back in the 1980s, but the project went bust a short time after the frames of the building went up. Is this chain still around and what theatres did/do they run?
I wasn’t aware that Perimeter Mall could accomidate 1,820, but then again, it wasn’t known for its spacious seating. The theatre got a considerable amount of exposure when it hosted the world premiere of “Driving Mrs Daisy” in 1989.
I have a listing for a Park Theatre at 3527 Park Ave in Memphis. The theatre opened sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s and doesn’t appear in any of the listings since 1960.
Located some additional information on the Westgate. The theatre was initially part of the Martin circuit. Also, the complete address is 3131 Campbellton Road, Atlanta, GA 30331.
Since I am no longer a resident of the Atlanta, yea even the state of Georgia, a drop in to the main library would necessitate a bit of a journey for me.
Do have some information on the Glenn, which I am in the process of posting. Haven’t had any luck on the Atlantic either, but am still checking it out.
Thank you for the update. Of the Atlanta Constitution archives that I reviewed, the only ones that listed a street address for the 10th Street were from the late 60s and early 70s. I wasn’t sure if this was one of those situation in which the street had been renumbered.

Unfortunately the digital camera I was using at the time had a very low resolution.

According to the 1921-28 Nashville City Directories, this theatre opened as the Central and was renamed the Elite around 1928.
Movie Palaces: A Retrospect (http://www.moviepalaces.net/) contains some great shots of the Tower during its prime.
