Beautiful venue. Shame it can’t be recommissioned.

When repurposing of a portion of the former Walmart/Sitel Building began in December 2019 a Spring 2020 opening was projected. However, because of the Covid pandemic smaller crews had to be used and other obstacles had to be overcome. The resulting venue has heated reclining seats, with adjustable head rests and USB ports to recharge your phone.

Uploaded photos from the Lexington Herald-Ledger of the theatre and the pylon when it was the Turfland Cinema at the Mall.

Most of the mall was razed. A portion of it is now a Home Depot.

When it first opened as the Ashland the entire floor staff were females. I’ve uploaded an image as the Ashland.

After the twin Chevy Chase closed it became a number restaurants and clubs.

It was finally razed in 2016.

Paul, when there was no balcony in a Prudential Theatre, such as the Pequa or the Mid-Island, they usually had a special area in the middle with a railing around it and different sized seats as the smoking section. I was never in the Big A so I don’t know if there was a balcony.

When Century only had a one level theatre a certain number of the rear rows were designated as the smoking section.

The Marquee and vertical have been removed for restoration estimated to cost $700,000. They are expected to be reinstalled prior to the reopening of the Warner in the Spring of 2021 after the multi million dollar restoration of the venue.

On October 20, 1988 the manager of Cinema World agreed to cut short the engagement of “The Last Temptation of Christ” from four weeks to two weeks because of objections and threats of boycotts by religious leaders who thought the portrayal of Christ was offensive.

ridethetrain Don’t forget the jewel box Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center which always has a significant foreign and independent selection of films in its programming and the tiny Plaza Media and Arts Center in Patchogue as single screen venues.

Why Eric? Many of the Sameric Theaters used that as part of the name, but not all.

Assuming JC Penney’s remained at the same location until they closed the address would be 116 North Main Street.

When her father died suddenly in 1918, Dorothy Jaquish, just out of high school, took over management of the Dreamland.

I’ve uploaded a 1915 image of the projection booth from the Oregon Historical Society and a January 2, 1913 ad placed in the Ontario Argus from the Oregon Theatre Project of the University of Oregon.
