I went to this theater often in the70’s. It was converted to a twin in the late 70’s.

I can’t believe they didn’t do a good business. Midnight In Paris played there last year for over 6 months. These big chain theaters really suck closing all the good single screen theaters.

I lived in TAmpa from 83-96 and worked at USF up the road from the mall and this was a great mall than. Wow what 16 years can do.

It will be interesting to see if this theater will add digital projection or fold. I hope they invest and add the digital.

I Sure wish they would do away with this 3-D crap and bring back 70MM. I would pay extra for 70MM

The 12 screens hey have open are all in the food court. The original 4 from GCC were in the back of the mall.

They are very good for closing some of ths screens in theaters they purchase. The closed the lower 4 theaters at the Las Olas Riverfront theater in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. It was originally 23 screens when opened by Regal in the late 90’s Regal eventually closed 8 of the screens in the lower section including the largest one. Now Frank has closed the remaining 4 lower screens

Has anything happened with this theater. Is it open or did the whole deal fall through?

I just uploaded 4 photos from last night. The theater is kept in reallynice shape by the new owners. One thing that hasn’t changed since I last was there in 05 is the screen in theater 3 isn’t wide enough for scope films. It still is off the screen on the right side.I am not sure what the problem is because you can see thwe screen is a great size.

Mike Rogers this was no great theater. The screen like all others in Tampa except 20Th Century were not wide enought to show films in scope. So any film in scope was off the screen and in the bushes. I hated it.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about 20th Century Drive-In on Oct 28, 2011 at 2:28 pm

The screen at the Mustang had a curve to it. I lived in Tampa when it was open and than when it was a flea market. The 20th Century had a true wide scope screen even though when I first went to Tampa in 77 it was panavision projection.

Do you know if the Mustang was capable of showing films in true scope?

Mikeoaklandpark commented about 20th Century Drive-In on Oct 27, 2011 at 12:51 pm

This was the only theater in Tampa that had a screen big enough to show films in true scope. Actually I remember reading that it was one of the largest drive in sceens in the United States.

CAn anyone tell me if they put in cinemascope screens with theater 3 &4. I and 2 were never capable of showing scope films. Floyd theares wanted the screens filled all the time which meant a film in scope was shown off into the thin air. A very tacky wasy to show movies.

Originally this theater was 23 screens. I am not sure why they could not make all 23 work. I know parking was always an issue.
