Drove by this place today. All storefronts abandoned and there are numerous red stickers on the glass fronts. Could not see what they were but my guess is unsafe to enter signs.
I worked here as a projectionist for a time filling in. Im thinking I know RCMH but cant place a name. I want to say Tom, but not sure. I was also the last projectionist to work at the Menlo Park Twin, worked at the Woodbridge Twin, Blue Star Quad and Sommerville Circle Triplex as well.
Not for nothing tombumbera, but I ran prints of Jurrasic Park at the old Amboys Multiplex for 9 months back when it first came out and we never had to replace the prints once. Of course we had a full union crew of projectionists, as opposed to the non-union crew that was at Mercer Mall.

Pretty impressive that they only lost 3 seats in the split. And to DeerinSpace, I know how you feel. I have been/was a union projectionist for over 37 years before losing my job to digital earlier this year.
Hi Vito. My wife will be going back to the hall to work on the Christmas show again this year. Sure wish someday I could get to see this booth, but I know it will probably never happen. My movie days were over as of May. Digital you know, put me out of work. It sounds as if those projectors at the hall might be getting a workout soon. Lets hope…..
johnnyA, my uncle was a projectionist at the Majestic, and my father was at the Royal around the corner. The Majestic switched to, and stayed with porn in 1969 until it closed sometime in the late 70’s. The Royal ran mostly black action and kung fu movies in that same time frame.
Actually, to address the New Years Eve issue, for many years that I can remember, all the theatres in the radius of streets where the times square celebration takes place closed after 6 pm that day. Im not sure if it was mandated by the city, but I know it was for crowd control and such. You wouldn’t want a packed movie theatre emptying out at midnight into a crowd that big. That practice has been going on for years.
I know the one dad was projectionist at started running adult movies in Cinema 1 in 1974. They tried to keep the kids and family movies in Cinema 2. It was closed and out of business in 1985.
Chief Bob, are you sure they declared bankruptcy in 1980?? My dad and uncle were projectionists at a Jerry Lewis Twin in Carteret N.J. and by the beginning of 1974 they were under private ownership. Perhaps I am getting confused with Network Cinema Corp. who was the company under which JLC’s were.
When this theatre was built in the mall in the mid 70’s, the floors were all wood. I bet that wouldn’t fly today. I can remember if someone with heels was in one theatre, you could here them walking in the other theatre.

Yes he was. Ed Grant, who spit in the faces of union projectionists when they picketed in front of his theatres up here in New Jersey. I remember him well. Pure….well, I’m not gonna say it here.

In the Star Ledger movie clock on Friday Sept 6th, this theatre is now listed as “Luxury Cinemas 13”
Status needs to be changed. Drove by here about a week ago and its demolished. Nothing but a parking lot now.
