I thoroughly enjoyed it! And I’m not a big fan of today’s music or dancing. It was totally entertaining and the 3D was excellent…a lot of out-of-screen effects during the dance scenes as well as being “immersive”. You felt like you were on the dance floor the whole time. Of the three in this franchise, this was the best!
How was step up 3d, JJD? Other than the dancing, how was the 3d? This weekend it’s playing on two screens from one screen.
Justin, I’m not ready to try “Cats & Dogs” again just yet but when I am I will call ahead. I’m on Movietickets.com all the time but never thought that a greyed out showtime could mean trouble. Thanks for the tip. Got plans for “Step Up 3D” tomorrow and hope there isn’t a problem with that.
JJD, did you phone ahead of time as well as check showtimes on movietickets.com? Usually before the show begins a showtime is in blue meaning that things are normal. If it’s greyed out, it could mean trouble.
lol
I heard that…Wile E. Coyote vs. Roadrunner. I’m anxious to see that. I grew up at time when it was standard procedure to show a Warner Bros. “Looney Toons” or “Merrie Melodies” cartoon or two before the movie. As a kid, that made us “light up”. Now, as a grown kid, I could light up all over again as I suspect we’ll see more of that…no doubt this time in 3D to go with the all-3D animated movies coming out.
Good for you JJD. BTW, the short that precedes the movie was made in native 3d.
Technically, “G-Force” was the first 3D to show at Rockaway…three days only (8/18, 8/19, 8/20)…then “X-Games 3D” took over the screen on the 21st, bumping “G-Force” to a 2D screen.
I wonder if the remaining digital projectors will be 3D-capable. How much more is the “add-on”? Or will some 3D movies still have to play in 2D digital? In any case, what great progress in just one year’s time.
I tried (again) to see “Cats & Dogs” today at 12:55pm and (you guessed it) it was cancelled due to technical problems…was told this at the counter so no refund/readmit pass involved. This is the third time…next time I’ll phone ahead.
One week from Saturday marks one year since Rockaway got digital 3D projection, beginning with a lackluster sports doc. Boy, what a difference a summer makes. Later this year, in November, marks one year since the digital version of IMAX came to the theater. By next month, this theater will be 100% digital, showing everything from 3D movies to sporting events and live concerts. With digital comes another price increase, which is happening with the cost of paying for food.
well that is good news.
So far, “Cats and Dogs” has been a real moneymaker…for me! I tried to see it twice (Friday 10:35am and today 10:35am). Both times they had to cancel the performance due to technical problems. So they refunded our money AND gave us re-admittance passes. I now have two. I assume they’re good for ANY performance regardless of time-of-day. We’ll see. There were only a handful of people in the audience both times (I was the oldest “kid” since 3D owns me) so it wasn’t a financial disaster for the theater.
That’s good to hear. I heard Cats and Dogs 3D got bad reviews. Good thing, since that movie uses fake 3d. I was watching some movies originally released in 3d in theaters such as Jonas Brothers concert and Journey to Center of the earth and they used effects that were 3-d like. Not good.
Glad you enjoyed it Justin. A friend of mine who had NO interest in animated movies or 3D (didn’t even want to see Avatar) saw DM and thoroughly enjoyed it (a convert?).
JJD, I saw “DM” at Rockaway at the smallest 3D screen, #13. It was enjoyable once the crowd died down during the movie. Very funny, lots of action, thrills, and plenty of fun with those minions. I can’t wait for the sequels. This movie is Universal’s CGI cartoon answer to Toy Story, and will provide much needed cash to a studio which hasn’t had a huge hit in a long time.
Pretty soon it will surpass radio city and ziegfeld as most commented theater on CT!!! lol!!!
Thanks Guys. I thought about doing 1000,but said NO. GO for 2000!
Next weekend, another 3D movie opens, Step Up 3D, which was shot with 3D cameras. Are people ever gonna get tired of seeing too much 3D movies already?
Last night, the popcorn machine caught fire, causing the theater to be evacuated. This according to some tweets by moviegoers.

Don’t think I need to update it. We’re eating his dust!
(Peter’s got a long way to go!)
Coming close.
One you guys are going to break the 1000 mark here real soon. Who will it be, Justin, JJD, or Peter?
BTW, the two friends who went with me were ages 26 and 46 and they agreed with me. Maybe, it’s not my age afterall.
I loved Toy Story 3 in both 3D and 2D. Both were pretty good. After Toy Story 3, there will be a short featuring the characters that will be shown before Pixar’s next 3d toon, Cars II, for release next year. And soon pixar will make a movie about talking planes called planes!!!
That’s funny, Peter. At 65, I am leaving brain cells all over Morris County. Maybe that’s why I had trouble with it. I also found the non-stop soundtrack rather annoying. Oh well, to each his own. Glad you guys liked it.
“Despicable Me” was a 10 out of 10…offbeat, funny, sentimental, and excellent use of 3D…right up there with “Dragon” and “Toy Story 3”. It looked great on the RealD screen. I didn’t notice any imperfections. There will be sequels.
