Did you try the LA library website? There are thousands of photos there. www.lapl.org

I agree with you, Warren. Almost every entry on this page concerns availability for some kind of sexual adventure. I’m not a prude, but this isn’t the site for that kind of thing. There about eight million other sites that would suffice.

No, I got off the freeway on the spur of the moment. I saw the Circle listing when I was posting the photos. Maybe another time.

The caption for this photo said “Strand Theater Broadway 1910s”. Going by that, it could be the Strand, but I can’t confirm it:

He’s going to be upset that you spelled his name wrong. Seriously, I enjoyed his work even if I didn’t agree with the NRA business. “Touch of Evil” comes to mind, although it was a stretch to think that he was Mexican. RIP, indeed.

I wonder if they were running that film in some kind of cross-promotion of the dismal remake that came out last year.

A bank and its parking lot now take up the entire west side of Garey between 200 and 300 South.

I went in the building today. I don’t think it was ever a theater. Here is an exterior photo:

I got it covered. I couldn’t figure out which one it was as there is no 770 anymore. This one is 766. I remember the State being further west, but I could be wrong.

The building has been sold to a new church. They are using the theater for services as well as live performances. In fact, the invited me to a performance tonight. I took some interior photos, but as always my flash let me down. I think the function should be church/live performances:

The last address on the 100 block is 132, then there is a vacant lot on the corner. I think the vacant lot was the California. A few doors south, there is another vacant lot which was probably the Park.

The building is now an antique store. I went inside, and it was a decent sized space. There is a new multiplex about a block away.
