I am not talking about all the crap at the beginning I am talking about the running time of the film itself. to which 1hr. 46mins. is on the short side for a large scale historical epic.
did ever really truly fix the 3D here (at the Laser IMAX screen)? Is the bad ghosting and messed up glasses issues with uneven poor coatings on the right lenses on some to many of the glasses really fixed?
Actually, with the film presentations I wouldn’t be surprised if there are no trailers. Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar didn’t put any in with their IMAX 15/70 presentations nor are there likely to be 15/70 trailers available, and with the regular 70mm showings, only Murder on the Orient Express seems like an obvious title to package in.
add to that 30 minutes of trailers and 20 minutes of ads it’s fairly long.

What are the best IMAX seats here post renovation? I had the best view of the screen in the middle of row M pre-reno. Thinking of trying out J for Dunkirk. Any thoughts?
never mind, in the case of A Ghost Story, the curved edges are correct, it uses the old NTSC format and they purposely also added curves on top to make it look like older TVs
I wonder if the curved edges were some projection mistake? I saw something in #1 once and it had some curved edges and it definitely should not have.
I saw A Ghost Story tonight on the main floor, no AC problem (as I expected by now).
It’s another title with a weird aspect ratio, looks to me like it might be the old academy ratio, but there also are these curved edges on all four sides- perhaps to mimic the look of an old photograph. It was in a flat DCP definitely though, and they properly set the side masking to flat, with the pre-show filling the masked screen and pillarboxing for the main feature (which I imagine is how it is going to be played outside of film festivals and special venues).
From what it sounds like the AC issue was in one floor, and I’d have to imagine it would be fixed no later than a couple days (maybe even later that day), otherwise it would cripple business in the Summer.
I have seen theaters post signs when AC isn’t working and said guests can request a refund if they got tickets or decide they can’t watch the movie (often it will be in one screen rather than the entire complex). And the one time I was planning to see a movie where AC wasn’t working, they said I could sit in the theater for five minutes before buying a ticket and see if it was okay (think this was the Beekman), and when I started to sweat after about two minutes, knew it wouldn’t work.
that’s scary….where i go they have the ac on in rockaway in all screens!!!

I have no idea what the NYC Building Code says but I should think it would illegal to operate a movie theater during the summer with no AC.
Can’t wait for Dunkirk in Imax. I hope the AC is fixed! lol

when Dunkirk opens on July 21 I assume it will play in both the IMAX and Loews auditoriums. when looking up the show times on IMBD how can I tell which screening is in the Loews auditorium?
Yes, they are bringing back the film projectors for the IMAX (not sure how hard it was to do here, but in IMAX Melbourne they said it took two weeks- no doubt to please Nolan). To me the one disappointment is apparently they can’t sync 15/70 prints with the new 12 channel sound system (that sounded amazing for the prologue) and will use the old sound system, though the Empire IMAX should be an option if one needs the 12 channel sound mix.
It will be worth the traffic to get there so I’ll take the train lol.
So the Imax theater is going to the old 70mm projector and not using the new laser one? I saw the preview when I saw Rogue One and it was amazing! I was so excited to see Dunkirk at the Imax at LS.
In addition to the already known IMAX 15/70 print, this theater will also play Dunkirk in standard format 5/70 film (I do see other places look set to be both 5/70 and IMAX digital, but two 70mm prints seems to be very rare). The other 70mm NYC locations I see so far from Fandango or the theaters themselves are City Cinemas East 86, and Cinema 1,2,3, and Regal E-Walk
I agree. My local AMC in rockaway when they play either scope or regular there’s the masking issue. It’s not an issue when I watch a movie on a flat screen tv but it’s worse when watching it on an overscan tube hdtv.
At least they didn’t play “The Beguiled” in a scope format without masking. (at least I think they didn’t) I hate when theaters do that.
If I would be a theater, I wouldn’t like to use an auditorium with a scope screen for a flat movie anyways. Theaters should have one or two or more 1.85 screens. With such a screen, the lack of masking probably wouldn’t bother as much with “The Beguiled” than with a scope screen.
In general though, it really bothers me when chains like Regal or AMC or even local movie theaters don’t mask properly. If you can’t mask it, don’t play it.
Of course “The Beguiled” is different because of it’s rare format, but in general that should be a rule imo.
