Opened under Stewart & Everett as the Oakwood Cinema 1 & 2 on July 29, 1977…..

Opened as the Carmike Cinema 7 on November 17, 1989.
The opening attraction for the grand opening of the Carmike Cinema 7 was “HARLEM NIGHTS” starring Eddie Murphy that played on 2 screens.
The Imperial Theatre’s demise came in 1964 when the opening of the Park Terrace Theater brought this cinema to closed its doors. Not to mention faced strong competition from the state of the art and bigger Charlottetown Mall Cinema 1 & 2 which was the state’s first-ever twin theater that opened a year earlier in 1963.

DeMille’s THE TEN COMMANDMENTS which was the only reserved seat showing of the film in the Carolinas. I also have the advertisement for its Eastern North Carolina premiere where it played in Raleigh first run which was also a reserved seat engagement. This theater got a LOT of the United Artists product and some Disney during the 1960’s and early-1970’s.
ALL of the “Beatles”, “James Bond”,and “Pink Panther” films played here first-run at the Center.
The Grand Opening for the Cinema 6 was October 14, 1983 under Charlotte based Stewart & Everett(which also owned and operated The Brynn Marr 3, Northwoods Twin,and the Center Twin). The Cinema 6 replaced the Iwo Jima Theatre Downtown and the Cinema Drive-In which were also under Stewart & Everett which were closed by 1983. THE CARMIKE CARDINAL 3 closed in October of 2000 as a second run discount theatre under Carmike Cinemas. The information posted about its closing is incorrect.
This theater got a lot of the MGM and Columbia product.
Not to mention the longest-running engagement that this theater booked was on June 12, 1967 for it showing of THE DIRTY DOZEN that brought it records crowds for 15 weeks.
Reminds me of the same architectural design of The Cameron Village Theater that opened about the same year as this cinema did back in 1951 in Raleigh,North Carolina.
The building had the same identical style and concept as the Cinema 6 in Jacksonville and Havelock and also in the same design as the Cinema 4 in Southern Pines.

Take State Highway 55 West through Apex (Downtown),and Beaver Creek Commons going towards Durham and Research Triangle Park. Go pass the State Highway 540 bridge(which is a toll road) towards O'Kelly Chapel Church Road and make a right at the light and go towards the roundabout onto Parkside Main Street. The theater will be to your immediate left.

Take the Durham/Triangle Expressway State Highway 147 South onto State Highway 540 West….State Highway 540 once it crosses Interstate 40 becomes a state toll road. Continue onto State Highway 540 until it reaches the State Highway 55 West(Durham) exit. At the exit make a right onto State Highway 55 West onto O' Kelly Chapel Church Road and make a right and go towards the roundabout onto Parkside Main Street. The theater will be to your immediate left.
FROM SANFORD, SOUTHERN PINES, AND SURROUNDING AREAS:
Take U.S. 1 North towards the Apex/Holly Springs/Fuquay Varina exit State Highway 55 exit and once at the exit make a left on State Highway 55 West through Downtown Apex and Beaver Creek Commons going into Durham and Research Triangle Park onto O'Kelly Chapel Church Road and go towards to roundabout onto Parkside Main Street. JURASSIC PARK played here first-run in 1993 on 2 screens with the largest auditorium having Dolby Stereo system equipped.
SEATING CAPACITY FOR THE GOLDEN EAST CROSSING CINEMAS that opened on December 18, 1987 under Cineplex-Odeon and later Carmike Cinemas.
Screen 1=200 seats the largest auditorium that was equipped with a Dolby Stereo system….

Total number of capacity seats: 675
Added on a second auditorium around late-1975 or mid-1976 when the Cardinal was under ABC Southeastern Theatres.
