I saw HOW THE WEST WAS WON at the Studio Theatre on my 10th Birthday! What a wonderful experience on the big screen with its beautiful curtains. A few years later – when downtown San Jose fell to hell – the studio became pornographic – Adult X Rated Movies competing with the GAY across the street. The FOX had already closed its doors and the UNITED ARTIST was 100% Mexican Movies.
Later on – in 1975 – Paul Catalana (previous owner of the MAYFAIR
EL RANCHO DRIVE IN and TROPICAIRE TWIN VUE DRIVE IN all in San Jose)
took over the lease on THE STUDIO. He ran 3 Features and changed
weekly. Admission was only $1.00 or less and the place tried
to compete with the other very successful JOSE THEATRE around the corner on 2nd Street which was very very successful with a grind policy @ 50 Cents Before 6pm and $1 After 6pm. With poor management,
the STUDIO became a haven for drug dealers and gang activities. In fact, someone set seats on fire in the balcony on a Friday night
causing the house to shut down early that night.
The Enean is located in a not-so-safe neighborhood. I hope that local
groups really get behind this project as it could turn the entire
area around – which it needs desperately.
Call Tankersley Enterprises – they can guide you through all the set up costs of equipment – etc.
It’s a fantastic business! I am a national film buyer and would
love to talk to you on the phone. Email me sometime soon!
Acknowledging the historical value of the site, Mr. Lieblich said his first choice would be to reopen it as an entertainment venue, though not as a single-screen movie theater; people don’t see movies in 4,000-seat theaters these days. Mr. Lieblich mentioned concerts, live shows, plays, dancing and comedy as some possible uses. And he is promising not to touch anything of historical value. “We’re treating it like it’s a piece of gold,‘’ he said. "It’s gorgeous, irreplaceable.”
From Your Lips – To God’s Ears Divinity. There would be nothing greater than to see the Bronx recover to the point whereby this
motion picture theater could flourish once again.
You Are Correct Robert. It could be wasted monies in a neighborhood where the old gal won’t be appreciated. Very sad indeed. Sometimes its better to have the fond memories.
An independent operator named Kyle Conner out of Santa Rosa has plans to remodel this venue into a 6 plex theatre. It has the potential to make thousands and thousands of dollars in this 90,000+
populated area. Currently, moviegoers much venture into Oakland or
Berkeley to view films where parking and safety can be problematic
depending on the hour of the day.
This is very good. The house needs extensive remodeling. Very out-dated venue that has excellent potential. Currently running a hodge-podge of film-fare and not exactly in the cleanest auditorium comfort. Stiff competition tho from down the street venues such as Clearview’s ANTHONY WAYNE 5 Plex and BALA CYNWOOD Plex too.
I hope this theatre does very well – it has the greatest demographics in the world for specialized films.
This poor DriveIn was constantly “fogged out” and eventually
leased out by its original owner to an independent who could not
afford to keep it going thus resulting in the eventual sale
for condominiums which don’t mind cold weather all year long.
If you need any help with re-opening or booking films – feel free to
email me anytime. I have 30+ years in the movie theatre industry and am going strong –

Feel free to contact me anytime regarding possible movie theaters that might be available for lease or sale throughout the United States. I know of some right now in Pennsylvania.
It it true? A new megaplex will be replacing the old Marlboro?

Is the STANLEY THEATRE available FOR LEASE?
Is it located in a safe neighborhood?

I just heard its going to be demolished soon. Hence the quick 45 day moratorium. Something is a foot in San Francisco!

Still, Mr. Lieblich did not reject the possibility that the theater might be used for big-box retail space, a move that would require covering, though not destroying, much of the interior décor.

Not Safe Means It Will NOT DO BIZNESS! There’s a reason that the old girl is closed.
