United Theatres (AKA: United Amusements, Le Cinémas Unis) was owned by Famous Players since the 1920’s. The United brand disappeared from the listings in 1987.
That was owned by Cineplex Corporation (of Texas), not Canada. When Cineplex Odeon entered the USA, they kept the Plitt branding for a couple of years (even opening some new theatres under the Plitt branding). as of Cineplex of Texas, they went bankrupt in 1986 and the bankruptcy court asked Cinemark to manage the chain. Cinemark later took what’s left of Cineplex (Texas).
