I was told there were about four people watching the Friday evening showing of “GREEN HORNET”.what quick death,Justin.
I just dropped my Daughter off to see “ GREEN HORNET” I told her it would most likely be empty,can’t blame AMC.I never thought it would do business to begin with and I guess it wasn’t in 3-D.
Probably. Maybe AMC should change their slogan to “Where Movies Live and then Die”.

Well at least one movie will be playing out of those two, and it’s the Danny Boyle movie. It might be too intense for me to handle…
Well the Oscars have been announced. Expect “127 Hours” and “Winter’s Bone” to play at this theater for the first time as they were nominated for best picture.
This coming Super Bowl weekend one major 3D release will play on both blown-up IMAX 3D and Real D 3D, Sanctum, which was produced by James Cameron of Avatar fame (one of nine producers) on a $30 million budget with little publicity, an R rating, and a lackluster cast. It will die a fast death at the box office just like what Green Hornet is doing this weekend. Even Justin Bieber won’t save the box office doldrums that are a result of poor box office returns for many 3D and big budget 2D films and the return of the popularity of art house and critically acclaimed movies like True Grit and Black Swan. Expect The Social Network to return to theatres once it gets announced for Oscars.
lol…Why did rockaway not show a 2D version when they showed it on 2 Real D screens and one 3D Imax screen? That’s the way it is meant to be seen since from what I heard the 3-D was so-so. At least Yogi Bear is finally playing in 2D just like the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon, which also had a feature length movie that was the first Hanna Barbera full length cartoon movie. Too bad Gulliver’s Travels is not a 2D version. Tangled is still showing legs and will provide Disney with lots of 3D cash in addition to Tron Legacy. Sooner or later, there will be a 3-D movie crash very much like the video game crash of 1983.

Possibly the best movie of 2010 that I’ve seen in Rockaway is Inception, followed by Despicable Me in 3D, and Iron Man 2. Best IMAX show would be Tron Legacy since several scenes were used to showcase the Grid fight scenes in full 3D. I heard that MI: Ghost Protocol will use select action scenes in full IMAX. Given the rise and fall of Tom Cruise’s box office with those movies, MI:4 might get a rebound and give Tom Cruise some needed popularity in America since his last movie, Knight and Day, tanked.
You’re right, larry1. Green Hornet didn’t live up to expectations this weekend according to estimates this morning. The box office at this theater continue to slide from last year when the king of 3D movies “Avatar” dominated the weekend. No wonder why fewer movies are being shot with 3D cameras with many being converted for 3D. I saw a commercial for a movie produced by James Cameron that will come out in February called Sanctum which won’t do well at the box office. About the only things that are drawing people into this theater are the Met in HD shows as well as the vast selection of indie movies. Would be nice if “Blue Valentine” and “127 Hours” were to play here.

I saw Scfy running “GREEN HORNET” all day yesterday,what few shows they made.It is hard to predict moviegoers,but we played “SUPERMAN III” to an empty House once Sunday rolled around.Who knows larry1.

I really wonder what kind of money “GREEN HORNET” will do.so many action heroes.Does the public ever tire of them?
Due to the snowstorm, this theater will be closed a bit early around 9 p.m. and reopen around noontime, according to movietickets.com. Late night showtimes are greyed out and early morning showtimes are greyed out too. Advance tickets are now on sale for the Natalie Portman movie No Strings Attached. The Green Hornet will play on two 3D screens and on the one IMAX 3D screen. According to IMDB, the movie was reshot using Red One MX cameras for scenes that needed to be in 3D rather than be converted to 3D. Judging by the trailer, the 3D effects look good.
One complaint I have about IMAX 3D is that it’s a bit darker than IMAX 2D. With the new Laser Light system, IMAX will save $$$ and make moviegoers happy. I can’t wait for the new system to put into the IMAX in Rockaway.
Parts of Born to Be Wild was shot using the new IMAX ‘prototype’ 4 k 3D camera. I cannot find out if the entire production used this camera, or if it was mixed with their normal IMAX 65mm. I have heard that the next digital upgrade for IMAX must take into account their larger screen theaters, as their mission is to (unfortunetaly) eliminate film altogether. There might be a few IMAX theaters here and there (Los Angeles) that will continue to show 65mm film, but I doubt for very long.
If you think that a copy of Tron 3D IMAX film with both reels weighs
over 1000 lbs, and costs close to 60K. If the digital version costs less then a grand..and weigh two pounds max, you can see the allure for exhibitors.
This link hints they are looking to move to Laser projection for their
next upgrade. ….. “The company says that if its use of Laser Light is successful, the larger IMAX screens should switch to digital in the next couple of years. The hope is that the entire system will not have to be replaced and instead, they will be able to integrate the new light source into existing projectors.”

Thank you mike Rogers. Thankfully they didnt play the transformers, real steel and fast five trailers, they all suck just like the upcoming I am number four trailer. Born to be wild 3d was shot in IMAX 3d and it will do as good as Hubble 3d. During the movie, they showed some cool 3d ads that used digital IMAX. Ads in order were a simpsons coke ad, a tron coke zero ad for a useless app, and a cool ad for google chrome. This weekend will be the final weekend that tron legacy will be seen on it’s full screen blurry glory.
I never thought of it ,but why take off the Glasses.they shouldn’t have to tell folks that.The Glasses stay on all the time I would think.Great Comments on IMAX.
Tron Legacy is having its last weekend in IMAX 3D this weekend. I liked how the scenes that take place in the Grid outdoors are shown in full IMAX, since it fills up the screen perfectly. Scenes that take place inside the Grid’s buildings are shown in scope format 3-d, and scenes that take place in the real world are in 2d scope. A disclaimer at the beginning of the film warns moviegoers to keep their 3D glasses on for the entire movie, which makes sense. Born to be Wild 3D was the only IMAX 3D trailer to be shown in full screen, as the other trailers were blown-up versions of the scope versions. The Digital IMAX is the largest scope ratio of any screen in this theater.
btw, the glasses that i wore during the showing were a bit scratchy as I tried to clean them. If they were scratchy, would’ve I returned them to the cashier up front for a new pair or keep them until after the show is over? Despite this, I saw the 3D just fine. I sat a row above the non-stadium seating aisle, right around the middle of the screen. The picture in the trailers was very sharp, but when the movie began, it was a soft picture. No pixels at all. Sound was rocking and loud and the film was decent. Maybe if Sony takes over IMAX they can develop a 4k version of the IMAX so that the picture is as sharp as film IMAX as well as digital 4k.
Went to see tron in IMAX 3d. The movie was better than the original but the 3d was not as good as despicable me or avatar. Crowd was sparse and was mostly kids and their parents. I’m glad tron is aiming for a new generation of moviegoers while keeping die hard fans happy. Previews were for green hornet 3d mars needs moms 3d pirates 3d cars 2 3d Thor 3d and some cute monkey movie called born to be wild 3d which looks Awesome.
